Yeah, you and me both. Even worse: this is not my player, but is instead my dad's player, which he has been expectantly waiting for for a long time... :( .

Right now it's just your dad's paperweight until you 'revive' it :(.

Best of luck KF (BTW, you just changed your forum nickname? I remember distinctly it was KingdomOfFall before, didn't even know it was possible, cool).

No, it's always been kingdomfall. It's named after a place in a book I've been formulating for a while ( I find that once I start books, I loose the whole idea of them, so I've been cautiously writing). It would certainly be cool if I was able to do that though.
Thanks for the wish, I really hope that this will be resolved. Stupid chinese and their confusing instructions. lol.

I bet even the native readers have issues upgrading the firmware as well.

Good luck on your book as well :).

so, we need to find the button combination to get the player back into USB chinachip mode without opening the player like in the vx777 guide - i will have a trawl on the teclast forums to see what or if anyone else has experienced this

BTW where was the player connected to, back USB ports or a hub???
did you use the supplied USB cable or another ??
did the download of the firmware have any odd, garbled characters for files names??? (basically chinese characters that windows did not recognise)

will report i i find anythng from teclast and i would also advise new users who get this player to wait for the English version of the tools and not to update until we find out the copy to player method which i am sure is the way to do the update

Back USB ports, using the provided cable, and there were 2 files which had boxes for names, one an HXF, and the other a TXT file.
Thanks for the help Maderin! I really appreciate it.

- Make sure you have the switch to "Off" position.
- Press and hold these buttons together: Return, M, <<, Volume Down
- While having these buttons pressed, plug in the usb cable to computer (Windows XP only - tried Vista but doesn't work)
- The computer will detect a new device
- Select advanced search and locate where you unrar the firmware 5.0 (Ex: c:/firmware)
- Select the teclast drive
- Once the driver is installed, load up the CC1600 tool (it's included in firmware 5.0)
- Select the first choice, i think it's "install driver" (Step 1)
- When done, load up the bin, DL, and HXF (Step 2, 3, 4)
- Select the second option (Step 5)
- On the player, you will see the message: Update firmware
- It should take less than 5 mins to update
- Then there will be a message saying it's complete
- Close CC1600 tool and reset the player. :)

Warning: updating the firmware will erase everything on the player. Make sure you backup your data and remove the microsd card you may have in the player before updating the firmware!

Here's the pic of the china tool

kev30 is right on track with his info
Are you sure you did step 1, "Select the first choice, i think it's "install driver" (Step 1)"
The drivers are the key here. You may need a second hand to hit reset whilst holding the button config to trigger USB recovery mode.
Just my 2cents I hope you get going soon.

chim, ask CC how the hell they could create such a shamefull user interface ever can you get any insight into how and what anyone would release a firmware that goes on all cc1600 player that looks like it was created by newborn moron

BTW there is no reset hole on this player, the master power switch acts a a reset, just turn it off if anything happens (nothing has for me yet)

well i was hoping to be the first to brick the player so i could help out in situations like this, just wasnt expecting a bricked player so soon!!

need to find a pic of the player taken apart and see if there is a hardware reset like on the VX777 if not then that means there is a button combination needed to connect the player and get it back into USB mode ready for the tool

i ahve had a brief trawl on teclast BBS with no results as yet, will keep looking though as we need to find the recovery procedure for when and if this happens agaain

chim: again, tell the CC guys i want a big word with their USER interface designer and tell them to design a player functionality and usability for real USERS - just ask them what possesed them to popup a whole video menu just for adjusting volume and why they use such an awful front AGAIN!! (as in the older ingenics player) and ask them to come clean and tell us the cc1600 is just a rebadged JZ4740 and that they are pushing it to the far edge of its abilities

also ask them if there is a way to access the hidden partition (rockchip) style as i knwo there will be, will make it alot easier for certain things. But i am sure you are talking to a rep who usually know squat about these things

@ Kingdomfall - hopefully we can get this sorted out as soon as possible

mad, he is indeed a rep i think, hardly speaks english and goes offline as soon i start asking questions.. dont expect fancy UI's from chinese players, i'm already used to that idea so i dont get disappointed

i dont know about the unauthorized screen, never seen it before.. but it sucks that there's no reset hole

i dont want Fancy UI in terms of the way it looks, i want functionality, usability and common sense, if that is fancy then my expectations are too high. I write software and have to think as hard about how the user uses, where things are located and how to get to them etc as well as coding all the magic behind it, if i released a development to our paying customers that was similar to the CC stuff we would never get paid!!!

how hard is it to not pop up all the video menus when just changing volume, that's is not fancy it common sense
how hard to apply plain back to ebook reader - not fancy - common sense

its just that they have let firmware programmers design the functionality/usablity and how it all works and (with all due respect) programmers are not user interface designers, that is a skill in itself of which programmers dont have - CC are the worst company so far that i have seen from china re mp4 design

Wow maderin1 that was a mouthful. I agree with what you posted 110%. You should forward those posts in an email to telecast, or CC or whom ever makes the firmware. So I must applause your comments. :)

For the umpteenth time, nope. Unless you want to stretch the meaning of rebadging so far as to call an Intel Atom a rebadged Zilog Z80 (which would be slightly more accurate).

LOL, maderin you just made my day with that post " looks like it was made by a newborn moron".
@dude0316 The "Install Drivers" thing is what caused the player to go into " Unauthorized" mode. I think it's a buggy program... Also, as there is no reset button, I am going to have a doozy of a time trying to get it to work :(. I hope I can get this sorted out as well.
@nlite: if the CC1600 is not a rebadged Jz4740, then why does the firmware file for the OS-72 have the USB driver for it?
@ Chim: yes, indeed it does suck about the lack of reset hole. It's sucked up at least one day, and seems like it will go for a double.
@ Peremptor: thanks for the luck I'll need it.
Thanks you guys for all the help so far.
