ZiiLABS Designs The Worlds Lightest Tablet – The Jaguar3

September 16, 2011 by Alex in Android Tablet, Tablet with No Comments.

ZiiLABS, better known for their reference designs for OEMs, have come out with a brand new prototype that could very well be a source of inspiration for many tablets to come. It's not totally out there, or even that original, but it's certainly something nice to hope to see in the flesh. We're talking about the Jaguar3 - a 10.1-inch tablet that comes in two 1.5GHz CPU versions: the dual-core ZMS-20 and the quad-core ZMS-40. Click after the break to see what else makes the Jaguar3 so special. Both versions of the tablet will have a front and rear camera of up to 12-megapixels, will come in a magnesium case and will have the thinnest dimension we've seen of a 10.1-inch device so far: 8.1mm or 7.4mm. The latter model comes with a capacitive multitouch screen with a resolution of 1200

ZiiLABS ZMS-08 Blu-ray Quality Processor For 2010

November 11, 2009 by Tom in Hardware News with 1 Comment.

It's not a pretty or exciting picture but it certainly could display a few. The ZMS-08 media processor chip is Creative's ZiiLABS' step toward getting Blu-ray quality on handheld devices. It provides full HD 1080p H.264 decoding and simultaneous H.264 encode and decode at 720p, along with 1080p 24fps encode. It also has the multi-media processing capabilities of the ZiiLABS StemCell systems with a 1GHz ARM Cortex processor. The chip supports OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics as well as Xtreme Fidelity X-Fi audio effects. The first bulk ship-outs are expected early 2010. [Via Slashgear] Discuss on the MP4Nation forum.

Creative Patent Low Scale Minority Report Style ‘Action Tabs’

August 10, 2009 by Tom in Hardware News with No Comments.

Creative have registered their latest initiative at the Patent and Trademark Office, a drag and drop interface with 'action tabs' that'll allow you to swish things around in your palm like a mini Tom Cruise. This tabbed MID/PMP idea is made a little more interesting given that the patent has been assigned to the Creative subsidiary 3DLABS, aka ZiiLABS, the makers of the touchscreen based Zii EGG. Action tabs may be used for tabbed web browsing but could also branch to other OS elements such as the clipboard or dragging items to various actions.   [Via engadget]
