More RK2918 Tablets Please – Window’s 7-inch N11 And N12

September 22, 2011 by Alex in Android Tablet, Tablet, Window with No Comments.

Window have come out with two new 7-inch tablets that house the current prom king of processors, Rockchip's RK2918 chip. The two new tabs have practically idential specs save for their screen type - The N11 has a 2-point resistive touchscreen and the N12 has a 5-point capacitive touchscreen. As for the rest of the specs, they both have a screen resolution of 800 x 480, 512MB of DDR 3 RAM, does 1080p video playback, comes with WiFi and 3G connectivity and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. They both sport a different look with the N11 slightly resembling the Ainol NOVO8 minus the buttons, and the N12 having that classic china-tab, black front bezel with white back shell look. The RK2918 processor certainly is a good chip, but are these two tablets just another couple of drops in an expanding p

Window N50 – 5-Inches Packing RK2918

August 4, 2011 by HS in Android Tablet, Tablet, Window with 2 Comments.

The Window N50 packs a lot of punch in a small form factor, measuring in at just 5-inches but powered by the RK2918 processor, Rockchip's flagship Cortex-A8 1GHz SoC - the very same that powers the Teclast T760. Supposedly packing a 3200mAh battery, the N50 should have exceptional battery life, but it might be prudent to take that claim with a mug of salt until official. The powerful processor provides 1080p video playback capability, as well as good gaming capability, making this an attractive and very portal media device - something that we've all been pining for. The question is: will it impress? Interesting is Window's choice to move away from their standard design aesthetic - sharper corners with more edge. Instead they've opted for a rounded, softer look that goes with the grain of

Video Review of ANDRock 7C AKA Window N9 Capacitive From Kristo

April 20, 2011 by HS in Android Tablet, Tablet, Video with 1 Comment.

Forum member "kristo" has done this video review of the ANDRock 7C AKA Window N9 Capacitive Android 2.1 tablet, powered by the Rockchip RK2818 processor. So what's the deal? *Kristo has put on a beta 2.2 FroYo firmware on this Window N9 and it seems to run pretty decently. We get g0ood footage of how Angry Birds runs, how the browser works and general usage-performance. Kristo is in the process of testing apps at the moment to confirm compatibility with this beta firmware, and you can read more into that here. *Please note that the ANDRock 7C comes default with Android 2.1 - this video review by kristo features a beta firmware and is not representative of how the tablet comes when bought new.

Photo Review Of The N6 – An RK2818 Android Tablet

April 7, 2011 by Alex in Android Tablet, Review, Tablet, Tablet Review, Window with 2 Comments.

The Window N6 is an Android tablet that shares many of the same specs as the N9 with the difference lying in the N6 having a resistive touchscreen instead of a capacitive one. The specs include a Rockchip RK2818 processor, a 7-inch resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 and Android 2.1 OS. Like the N9 unboxing, we're going to keep this review + photo review (we've kept the screen protector on this particular model) brief and simple - especially since it's practically the same tablet. Find out more after the break. BOX AND TREATS The N6 comes in the same box and with the same treats as the N9 which includes a screen protector sheet, a nice looking case-sleeve, standard earphones, a USB to MiniUSB cable, a DVD with some relevant files, an instruction manual and

Window N Series Gets New-Look UI

April 4, 2011 by HS in Android Tablet, Tablet, Window with No Comments.

Looks like Ramos aren't the only ones overhauling their UI. Window have recently released these teaser shots for their N series of Android slates - and it looks quite nice. With a squarer and flatter look than we are accustomed to with Android, the overhauled UI is actually impressive in a minimalistic kind of way, with nice icons and, despite the many widgets, lacking the feel of clutter that Android homescreens always seem to get. Not much else is known - presumably this will come for soon-to-be-released Window N models, as there hasn't been any indication that this will be ported to older models via firmware updates or the like (though 2.2 firmwares have been promised). It is likely that new production runs of the tablets will ship with this UI, though. Tell us what you think of it on

Unboxing the Window N9 Capacitive Android Tablet

March 14, 2011 by Alex in Android Tablet, Featured, Review, Tablet, Tablet Review, Window with 3 Comments.

Today we get to look at the Window N9, an RK2818-powered 7-incher (800 x 480) with a capacitive touchpanel and running Android 2.1. We're just unboxing and taking a look, no in-depth benchmarking here or anything of the like. We've unboxed, sussed out and snapped up the tablet. Keeping it brief, keeping it simple.   BOX To begin with, the Window N9 tablet comes in a pretty solid and neat box. So solid in fact that it can take a little while even getting the thing open. Once the tough cardboard lid is lifted, you'll find the tablet snugly fitted within the foam frame. Lift that up to find all the accessories which includes a case underneath.   TREATS With regard to the accessories, the majority is standard stuff but there are a couple of unexpected treats. T

Window N5 Pro 2 – Second Iteration Drops “Smart PMP”

March 1, 2011 by HS in Android Tablet, Tablet, Window with 1 Comment.

Window will be dropping the "Smart PMP" tag from their N3 / N5 / N5 Pro line, with their second iteration, the N5 Pro 2 becoming a fully-fledged mini-tablet with WiFi internet access. The N5 Pro 2 is also powered by the Rockchip RK2818 ARM9-based processor, meaning this tablet does Android 2.1. In fact, it seems that the N5 Pro 2 simply retains all of the hardware of its predecessor with the addition of a WiFi module - perhaps the Android-WiFiless-PMP audience wasn't so large. The N5 Pro 2 will also support 3G internet connection via 3G dongle, meaning you can browse on the go, but it is a bit of a clunky solution. Along side the RK2818 processor is 256MB DDr2 RAM. The N5 Pro 2 is a fairly small tablet, at 5-inches (800 x 480) which is a form factor we don't see much of in the mobile-com

Window N3 A Low-Cost N5 Pro

January 6, 2011 by HS in PMP with 3 Comments.

The Window N3 is another in a fast-growing fad of "smart PMPs", running Android 2.1 but without WiFi access, arguably lacking a vital part of the Android experience. With that aside, the N3 is basically a low-cost Windows N5 Pro, perhaps aimed at students. Where have they cut corners, you ask? Well for starters, this is no longer a 5-inch device but a 4.3-inch one, so the screen resolution has been dropped from the N5 Pro's 800 x 480 to 480 x 272. Other than that, the N3 seems similar to the N5 Pro, with the same Rockchip RK2816 processor at its heart and Android 2.1 OS slapped on top. The N3 will continue to use the widget system that is used on the N5 Pro, and 3D desktop effects will come standard. The N3 will ship only in 8GB flavour, and will have an accelerometer. It'll do 720p vide

Window N5Pro A 5-Inch “Smart PMP”

December 21, 2010 by HS in PMP with 2 Comments.

Window's N5Pro is a 5-inch (800x480) "Smart PMP" - that is, it runs Android 2.1 but has no WiFi or 3G connectivity. It is an island in the Android community, essentially. Many feel that the Google Marketplace is as integral to Android as anything else, and without it, the access to a vast array of apps and customisability is robbed. To refresh your memory, the original N5 model was announced a while ago, and this N5Pro evidently upgrades the ex-model, increasing DDR2 RAM capacity from 128MB to 256MB, which is certainly welcome on any Android device that has no access to task killers! The RK2816 600MHz ARM9-based SoC from Rockchip lies at the heart of this smart PMP, and the device is capable of playing up to 720p HD video supporting the usual suspects of file format and codec types. via
