Strange & ODDity In Technology - welcome to SODDIT, a hopeful new regular at MP4Nation. We’ll scour the internet superstores and bring to you the intriguing, the weird, the strange, the odd, and the downright unbelievable. Please, don’t let the loose stringency of our acronym naming system turn you away.
Today we take a look at portable speakers of the stranger variety.
If you didn't get it from the title, what we were implying was that through this blog, you'll be able to look cool whilst being one of those little bastards that play their music out loud at the back of the bus, annoying most every other passenger plus driver. "How the HELL can I ever look cool doing that" we hear you whine? "Well, follow on and you will know" we whisper in response. Bellow below features the ma
From Bando comes this weird, weird device - the Leisure Eyes Cover.
It's designed to be comfortable, cover your eyes and provide you music via the two built-in speakers.
It's for relaxation, plane journeys and the like. It even looks like it could be quite comfortable but design-wise it leaves a lot to be desired.
Out now for $16 (meaning the speakers are probably aren't up to much).

Here’s a novel idea for speakers – see the little nobbly bits on the top of the Klipsch LightSpeaker? That’s where they screw into a light socket and get their power to play back your tunes. They light up to boot, which means they’re a portable (well, within buildings) speaker set that are also functional as a 40,000-hour lifespan lightsource.
Sound’s pumped out through an impressive 2.5 inch wide dispersion driver and they use 20 watts each. They get the tunes via the included transmitter, which connects to PCs/CD players/MP3 players etc. and allows for a truly wireless audio system.
The downside’s the $599 pricetag.

For some portable speaker action that looks like it could take a knock or two Audio-Technica's AT-SPB5 BoogieBox speakers fit the bill.
They have their two 70mm speakers and a built in amp which you'd expect to be a big drain but they offer an impressive 10 hours of battery life.
They come in red, black or camo colours and cost $159.99.

Here's a set of portable speakers from trendy clothes folk Juicy Couture.
It's a pair of dogs which have speakers lodged in them somewhere and a USB cable and aux jack coming out of them (again, it's left unsaid where...)
Unsurprisingly there's no tech specs provided but it's pretty certain sound quality and wattage details won't be the primary concern of the people who buy this pair of pink puppies.
They'll be at a Juicy Couture near you soon for $68.

iHome's portable media player headphones that double as an instant party when they're flipped open and the speakers get their amp power working. In theory. There's a lot of scope for them to fall into 'jack of all trades' territory though but for some mild music sharing they'll probably do the job.
Without being to pessimistic it's certain the iHMP5 headphones in speaker mode will rock the party, as long as there's no one speaking and if you live near traffic, the window's closed.

We are again proud to be one of the few places where you can get the Fiio PS1110 WalkBox, the slick and slim speaker provides some seriosly pleasant audio. The dual speakers provide quality audio, suitable for use within a small radius, the speakers do produce a good volume, especially considering their size. This speaker is of quality, something that you would expect as Fiio are the makers of the Meizu mDock, whcih itself is a fantastic compact speaker/dock set.
The WalkBox has a metallic front and a solid plastic back, the overall build and finishing is also very good and would make for a nice addition to anyone's travel accessories. The WalkBox can be powered either by USB (wall charger or from a PC) or can be powered with the use of two AAA batteries. It also has its own volume co
