Cooper's upcoming Q4T, a 4.3-inch PMP, is a 720p player based off of the Rockchip RK2728 chip, somewhat of a throwback these days. However, the RK2728 is not all bad, and handles 720p video well. This Cooper Q4T player is also boasting a similar UI to what the Window G89 had, a widget-based UI that is moveable, making for some fairly high-level customization as to how you want your various "dashboards" / "desktops" / "landing page" to look. Window have opted to stick with this widget system in their upcoming releases, and it seems that Cooper is getting on board the train as well. The Q4T will support the standard video file formats including AVI, MKV, RMVB, MPG, MP4 etc. and will come in 4GB flavour. Perhaps a bit late to the market, but not a terrible addition to the 4.3-inch fray. J
Today I'll be looking at the Window G89 "Touch Magic" 4.3-inch player housing the Rockchip RK2728 chip. I thought at first that this was some kind of iteration of the Window G85. Albeit, a somewhat less impressive, spec-wise, iteration. When we get down to it, however, the G89 really isn't just the adopted brother of the G85. It's got a completely redesigned UI for starters. Let's take a look.
The Basic Spec Rundown
Screen: 4.3 inch touch screen w/ resolution of 480×272 pixels.
RK2728 chipset (as opposed to the RK2806 in the G85).

Support for MP3, WMA, APE, FLAC, OGG audio formats.

Well this isn't really going to win Onda any awards, but it will probably not break the bank either, this low cost touch screen player is not that bad. It uses the RK2728 processor and a flash based UI, the two combine to make this a decent all round player.
Onda did use a normal 480x272 screen on this, but the touch screen panel they used was quite responsive, even for a resistive screen. The UI is based around the same found on some Telechips based players, but in this case the UI runs much smoother and nicer.
Not a bad, low cost, all round player, you will be happy with the performance, but there is better out there, like the G85 and V9000HDA.

The G85 is a much anticipated player from company Window, its the big brother of the G82 and G83 players but this one packs a touch screen and uses the 28 rockchip instead.

The new Window G85HD, the 'Touch Viva' as Window dubs it, is certainly boasting a very attractive user interface. The renderings show quite a different UI that we are usually used to seeing on a player like this
Even though all the images of the UI show a very clean and slick UI, they are in the end renderings and in our experience, what a rendering looks like on a Chinese PMP to what it really looks like, can be very different.
The Window G85HD is a 4.0" touch screen player based on the new RK2728 media processor, it will be capable of support videos in AVI, MKV (H.264), RMVB, FLV, VOB and more and can support videos upto 720p. No release date or pricing yet on this model, but i am pretty eager to get my hands on one.

There has been much speculation on what exactly was the difference between the RK2728 chip and rockchips new generation chip, the RK2806, i think i have my answer now. Simply put the RK2728 chip is made to used in players that were designed around the RK2706 chip, factories only need to change the chip, without changing any other hardware and load up a newer fimrware.
This really isn't anything new, this pretty much was the same for players using the older RK2608 chip that then started using the RK2706 chip. It didn't happen with the RK2806 chip as this required different additional hardware to be present for it to properly work (in particular more SDRAM), i guess it just took Rockchip a little longer to develop a chip capable of doing the same as the RK2806 but based around the RK2706
Onda has yet again recycled another design, today they announced the soon to be released VX777R model. The current renderings show the player to look exactly the same physically and also looks to have the same main menu layout.
I suspect that the VX777R will use the RK2728 media processor, this is an upgrade of the RK2706 chip. The newer chip supports even higher resolution videos, or rather, will playback, even better, the videos you currently have been using on your VX777LE or other RK2706 player.
Expect the player to be released sometime in January 2010 and probably priced around the same as the old VX777LE was.
