Paradigm Shift EER-051D ebook reader – Rockchip based

April 22, 2010 by Raz in Rockchip with No Comments.

Yes another eBook reader, this one is apparantly going to be the cheapest, read $130. This eBook reader was being hawked by every other booth at the Asia expo fair last week, which is where Paradigm Shift probably found it too. My reason for mentioning this on our blog is for the Rockchip RK2706 SoC that's running this eBook reader. Also want to mention the screen isn't eink, but rather as standard TFT screen. My Take on the RK2728 Chip

December 30, 2009 by Raz in Rockchip with 1 Comment.

There has been much speculation on what exactly was the difference between the RK2728 chip and rockchips new generation chip, the RK2806, i think i have my answer now. Simply put the RK2728 chip is made to used in players that were designed around the RK2706 chip, factories only need to change the chip, without changing any other hardware and load up a newer fimrware. This really isn't anything new, this pretty much was the same for players using the older RK2608 chip that then started using the RK2706 chip. It didn't happen with the RK2806 chip as this required different additional hardware to be present for it to properly work (in particular more SDRAM), i guess it just took Rockchip a little longer to develop a chip capable of doing the same as the RK2806 but based around the RK2706

Upgrade: Onda VX777 R-Version touch screen player

December 30, 2009 by Raz in Onda with No Comments.

Onda has yet again recycled another design, today they announced the soon to be released VX777R model. The current renderings show the player to look exactly the same physically and also looks to have the same main menu layout. I suspect that the VX777R will use the RK2728 media processor, this is an upgrade of the RK2706 chip. The newer chip supports even higher resolution videos, or rather, will playback, even better, the videos you currently have been using on your VX777LE or other RK2706 player. Expect the player to be released sometime in January 2010 and probably priced around the same as the old VX777LE was.

Hacha PC90 Video review

February 9, 2009 by Raz in Hacha, Video Review with 2 Comments.

Finally got round to doing the Hacha PC90 video review a few days ago and only had time to post it up today. Enjoy the video review, if you take anything away from the video review just know the screen on this player rocks, i can't really say that this player is good for anything else, mainly due to the cumbersome UI, but its compact and stylish looks, make this a very nice and good looking player, good for video use. January 22, 2009 by Raz in Onda, Video Review with No Comments.

The latest variant of the VX767 player from Onda, this player now uses the RK2706 chipset and also has a built in FM transmitter. The player is similar to that of the original VX767, except this player has a bit more flashy UI. The Onda VX767L 16GB is on sale at MP4 Nation for just $104.50 - get one today

KO RM2300 uses car tint tech for mirror finish

January 6, 2009 by Raz in PMP with No Comments.

No, the entire faceplte isn't a screen, and its not a touch screen either, just thought i would get those two most likely wrong assumptions about this player right out of the way. What i can tell you is that the KO RM2300 is pretty much your standard RK27xx based MP4 player, capable of playing high resolution videos at a decent frame rate, good audio quality and supports numerous audio and video format and  it allows for TV out. What makes this player stand out is its overall design, the sleek look is actually quite impressive, ok so we really don't know how close a real version of the RM2300 would stack up to these rather nice renderings, chances are that the two will differ quite a bit, but what really catches our eye is the front faceplate. The new (looks familiar) Onda VX767L

December 20, 2008 by Raz in Onda, PMP with No Comments.

Well not that this is to much of a shocker, but Onda is releasing a newer 'version' of the Onda VX767, the VX767L, this is the second reincarnation of the original VX767, previously we had the VX767LE, which was basically the same as the VX767, except the TV out was dropped in favour of dual audio ports. Now what does dropping the E from the LE mean, well it actually means pretty much a new player in the shell of the VX767. Like the VX777LE, Onda has redone the player to run on the RK2706 chipset, so it will have all the standard characteristic of RK2706 player, but will also come with TV out and a FM transmitter. One downside to this move is that the JZ4740 chip which ran the VX767 and VX767LE was better for video, it could provide smoother playback for higher resolution movies. One on

Teclast release the New C320 Player

December 15, 2008 by Raz in PMP, Teclast with 2 Comments.

Teclast drops yet another new player, but this one fails to impress me, its pretty much a revised version of their M31, but with a landscape UI layout and with a simple QVGA screen. There is little doubt that this won't be using the RK2706 chip and therefore will be able to play a multitude of video and audio file formats at high resolution. No word on pricing or availability, but don't be suprised if it outs nefore the years end.
