New Philips GoGear Connect Receives Gingerbread

April 20, 2011 by HS in Android Tablet, MP4, PMP, Tablet with No Comments.

Philips have come out with a new iteration of their GoGear Connect PMP/mini-tab and more than just the Android version has changed, though that is certainly the highlight of it all. From Eclair (2.1) to Gingerbread (2.3), the GoGear Connect receives the most up-to-date Android revision not-named Honeycomb (3.0). The GoGear Connect comes with access to the Android Market (WiFi connectivity but no 3G), comes in 8GB and 16GB flavours (with a 32GB supposedly incoming) and is scheduled to hit the shelves in September. Noticeably different from the last revision, this GoGear has lost its white skin colour and trackball, and now has a capcative touchscreen display (3.2-inch). The player will be capable of 720p HD video playback, but is likely aimed at being more of a music player due to the sma

Philips’ SA080 PMP Strives For A Darker Future

March 18, 2011 by Alex in MP4, Philips, PMP with No Comments.

The Philips SA080 is a portable media player that boasts high definition video playback, but uses a 24-bit TFT LCD display which is supposed to reduce the brightness for those with sensitive eyes. Unfortunately not much specs have been revealed on the player, but we do know that the 4.3-inch screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 - higher than the standard in PMP's. Compared to the Philips GoGear Muse 3, you're looking at much better video playback - 720p video playback in fact - and in HD. And if the players 'annoying brightness reducing display' does its job, then watching Enrique thrusting on the dance floor may finally be bearable. The SA080 also comes with Philips' FullSound - a technology of theirs that restores the sonic details that music compression loses on the player's audio fi

Philip’s GoGear Muse 3 Audio/Video Player Looking Fly

March 10, 2011 by Alex in MP3, MP4, Philips, PMP with 1 Comment.

The GoGear Muse 3 is Philip's stylish and fly looking audio and video player. Fly because of its metallic (seemingly brushed) shell and basic bachelor-esque design, very much synonymous of Philips (and Enrique Inglesias). The player sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen with a resoultion of 480 x 320 and shows its Home button situation strangely enough on the metallic panel to the right. It almost seems decorative. Whether it works or not is a mystery but it would be pretty neat if it did. The audio files this player supports includes MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC, APE, ect. Video files include MPEG4 SP / ASP, AVC/H.264 HP, RMVB, WMV9, etc and it also supports image files - JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, ect. The GoGear Muse 3 comes with an FM radio and Philips Fullsound - a Philips made technology that r

Philips Connect 3.2-inch MID

September 2, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

The Philips Connect is a rather impressive and rather small device, an Android-powered MID. Sporting the Google OS Android version 2.1, the Philips Connect has a 3.2-inch 480x320 touchscreen, which might seem a tad small to some as internet browsing might get curiously scroll-happy. The MID will also be able to playback 720p video, with a wide array of supported video file formats. All in all, this certainly looks like an interesting device, but it will no doubt be more expensive than many another similar, but generic, products. The size is quite probably the Connect's biggest draw as it fills a very specific niche. Portable with WiFi. via imp3

Philips GoGear Spark – Inspiration Lost on Design Front?

May 3, 2010 by HS in PMP with 1 Comment.

Those folk at iMP3 really do know their stuff, this time reviewing the Philips Spark, a mini 1.5-inch player that looks sort of snazzy for an MP3 player but you sort of wonder why it has a picture view option anyway. Specs of the small device are as follows: with 1.5-inch TFT color screen; supports MP3, WMA, APE, FLAC and other audio formats players; provides "Acoustic sound" support; supports audio books; provides personalized power settings; nominal audio life time of 22 hours; supports voice recording; supports FM FM radio function; supports picture browse function; comes with music management software; USB2.0 high-speed transmission. But let's face it. The design of the Philips Spark leaves a lot to be desired. It's almost round enough to play ping pong with. via iMP3

Philips Muse And Ariaz Players On Show

January 22, 2010 by Tom in PMP with No Comments.

Next from camp Philips comes the Ariaz (pictured above) and the Muse (after the jump). The Ariaz features the pretty cool braile style bumps for navigation and the Muse is touchscreen. The 2.4 inch Ariaz screen is a bit smaller than the 3.2 inch Muse, as is the capacity which sees the Ariaz hold 8GB and the Muse take 16GB. Both offer HDMI output, have SD expansion, are out in the spring and will cost $149 (Muse) and $79 (Ariaz). via zol

Tiny Philips GoGear Spark SA2925R/37 Review

November 20, 2009 by Tom in PMP Review, Review with No Comments.

Anythingbutipod have reviewed the Philips GoGear Spark SA2925R/37, an MP3 player of tiny proportions judging by the size comparison picture. In their full unboxing and review, photos and video, the 1.5 inch screened player comes up trumps despite being from the usually dull Philips and being only Windows compatible. The OLED screen set it apart from other players giving it an impressive look. Unfortunately the snazzy screen does bump up the price. Read the full review here.

Philips SA075 PMP Evaluation

November 11, 2009 by Tom in PMP Review with No Comments.

The 1080P Philips player has been poked and prodded by Chinese site PCOnline and here are the collected visual and translated textual highlights. Read all after the jump. Appearance & Build The SA075 is chalked up as being lightweight due to its all-plastic shell but with a finger-print heavy 4.3 inch touch screen. The edges are peppered with buttons and holes, namely the lanyard hook, the power/lock switch, TF card expansion slot and the reset button. Also present is TV-out, HDMI out, USB slot, audio out, a home key, volume control and speakers either side of the screen. The back material is described by PCOnline as looking like a leather wallet or cigarette case. I'd say there's a touch of old lady's purse about it too (not a euphemism) Screen The screen is a 4.

More HD PMP News: Philips SA075 Joins In The Fun

September 29, 2009 by Tom in PMP with No Comments.

Despite info being thin on the ground, we know the SA075 has an 800 x 480 touchscreen and has HDMI output. Even the HD capabilities are vague but considering 1080p has fast become the norm over the last few weeks, it's probable Philips will be following suit. [Via Slipperybrick] Discuss on the forum.

The 16GB Philips GoGear Muse PMP

September 9, 2009 by Tom in PMP with No Comments.

Taking the place of the Opus for Philip's best in show is the GoGear Muse which is set for release in Singapore. The glossy player has a 3 inch display, 16GB of storage and playback support for all the major video and audio codings as well as getting BMP, GIF, PNG, OGG, APE, Real Video and Real Audio over its Opus counterpart. Playback time is 20 hours for audio and a comparitively small 5 hours for video and it will cost around $250. [Via Engadget] Discuss on the forum.
