HOTT’s 5-Inch MID Stocking Shelves

July 29, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

The HOTT MD500 should now be starting to stock shelves, according to imp3, after months of hype and promotion. To refresh your memory, the HOTT MD500 is a fairly unremarkable 5-inch MID that is set to run Google Android 1.5 - a surefire hint that inside it houses the Rockchip Rk2808 chip. Another surefire hint is that the MID is capable of decoding up to 720p videos, which is the limit of the 2808 chip. The firmware is looking to be slightly customised with preloaded apps such as QQ. All in all, nothing to get terribly excited over, though it does add another MID into the 5-inch range which is a welcome addition. It, however, is not selling for particularly cheap with a 899 Yuan price point attached which will no doubt be inflated when sold overseas. The RAmos W7 is a better choice. via

HOTT 5-Inch MID MD500

June 24, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

HOTT are releasing the MD500, a 5-inch Android based MID hot on the heels of their MD700, the 7-inch variant. This 5-incher is powered by the Rockchip Rk2808 chip (and so is therefore capable of decoding up to 720p video) and runs on Android 1.5. The MD500 weighs in at approximately 190g and comes in capacities of 2GB to 16GB which is certainly quite a spread. All in all, this 5-inch device is another Rockchip based Android MID, but it comes in a smaller size than the usual 7-inchers we see. Not bad at all if you're looking for a portable, on-the-go mobile internet device. via iMP3

This RK2808 Android player looks familiar (w/ Video)

I don't know if Hott bought the same design plans as RAmos or they are simply OEMing it from RAmos, but the Hott MD500 certainly looks exactly like the RAmos W7. Aside from the fact the two look the same, the video that is shot of this device does give a little more insight to how Android is being configured for these RK2808 based players. Check out the video after the jump. Via Engadget & ARMDevices
