We live in a fast-paced world where we move on from something quicker than realising why we even liked it in the first place. In that regard, Android 3.0 Honeycomb on the Motorola Xoom is so last month. This months flavour is Ubuntu Linix running on the same device. One, Thomas Sohmers has taken the time to figure out how to run Ubuntu on the Motorola Xoom and has granted us with the instructions and a demo video so that we can do it ourselves. If you're apprehensive about swapping the OS on the tablet you've just spent USD$800 on, then fret no more as running the Ubuntu OS does so in conjunction to Honeycomb - you won't need to get rid of the Xoom's original OS for Ubuntu Linex. The Ubuntu OS is actually installed and powered by a VNC client. This also allows you to easily swap between
Linpus are known for developing light-weight Linux-based operating systems, mostly for netbooks and tablets. Linpus are gearing up to showcase their newest tablet solution at the upcoming MWC in Barcelona. The OS is based on MeeGo Linux, a Linux-based open source mobile operating system that sees its roots in both Intel Moblin and Nokia Maemo soil. It's optimised especially for touchscreen operation on tablets and that is fairly evident by nice large buttons / icons, as well as a large and spacious on-screen keyboard. It seems to borrow some stylings from Android with its similar home screen and the widgets look sharp and relevant. The OS is supposed to run well on low-power Intel Atom chips - you'll see a quick 14-second boot on an Atom-powered tablet in the video after the break. The o
We've covered an iPhone 4 clone in the previous blog, now it's the iPad's turn. The Haleron H97 is an exact iPad clone in terms of looks. It's shell has that glossy black frame with the common Apple home button on the bottom, and the matte, metallic, curved back, albeit a bit thicker than the actual iPad. Turn it on however, and you'll get a Windows 7 logo pop up instead of the bitten off apple. At the moment though, we've only got the press photo to judge off. The real thing could be a multi-coloured concrete slate for all we know. We doubt it though, as concrete won't do well with a 2GHz Intel Atom Z550 CPU, a 9.7 capacitive multi-touchscreen with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, 1GB of RAM, Intel graphics, WIFI, Bluetooth, optional 3G and a VGA webcam. No, concrete would render all th
Japanese company Redstar have begun taking pre-orders of their in-house developed Shogo Linux tablet. The Shogo is a 10.1-inch (1024x600 screen resolution) tablet powered by the Freescale iMX-37 processor. In addition, it comes with 256MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, WiFi as well as Bluetooth connectivity with support for 3G. However, one wonders at the audience of this device. There are no app stores or anything of the like to prop up the Linux tablet, though perhaps Redstar might be planning on having a set of pre-bundled apps on the Linux. Either way, an interesting turn for the tablet market, though it is uncertain as to whether these will be available outside of Japan.

After last week's Linux-based H800 prototype snaps, here are some screen shots of the H800 in action, running the desktop, the Internet, word processing and more.
Despite these nice looking screencaps, the only other info we know is it has a 4.3 inch touch screen (480 x 272 resolution) and runs on an Ingenic JZ4750 chipset which we hope that it will have 128mb ram, as opposed to the 64mb ram which the same chipset based B53Wifi had.
More pictures after the jump.

The H800 has been making some slight rumblings, apart from some specs and a few pictures of the OS it would be using, there wasn't much info on the H800, till now, forum member nlite found these pictures of what looks x to be the H800 prototype.
Some things we do know about this player is that it will be linux based (duh!), 4.3" touch screen (480 x 272 resolution), run on an Ingenic JZ4750 chipset, we hope that it will have 128mb ram, as opposed to 64mb ram which the same chipset based B53Wifi had.
Cube have not given any release date or pricing for this new player.

Well i finally got to uploading this video review, the ending is cut short a little due to Youtube time limit, also i am not entirly sure why Youtube made this video in to a 4:3 res when the original video is in 16:9.
Anyways hope you enjoy.

So i finally got off my arse and did a video review, again i do want to clear up the point on the audio video playback comment i made, i kind of fumbled on what i was trying to say, basically the hardware is too taxed to properly allow for video playback and the audio player is just to slow to be efficiently used. Great for being used as a device for surfing the net, ebook, pdf reading etc, just not something i would consider for use for audio and video use.

Not an Spectrum ZX game, just news that Creative have shed more light on their Zii Egg development platform. The PMP is geared toward developers building applications and entire user experiences out of the Zii Egg chips cell hardware that goes alongside Android and their own Linux based OS dubbed Plaszma.
It looks to follow the phone-like natures of other PMPs but should the combination of Zii Egg and Android be a winner it could spell a more interesting PMP from Creative.
