ITRI Rebrand The MID – The Android-based WiMAX PID
September 7, 2009 by Tom in Tablet with No Comments.
Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) have come up with their take on the popular MID - the PID, or Personal Internet Device. At the moment the protype PID features some garish decoration that is set to divide personal tastes but is billed as a "mobile multimedia device with high definition video capability." Demonstrations so far have seen the PID downloading videos, browsing the web and playing games - nothing too spectaularily different from any current MIDs so far. Their main point is the synergy between the MIMO MiMAX chips and the ARM microprocessors along with Android. If the hardware pulls it through, the expected sub-$250 price tag could be a pull for whenever it hits production. [Via Pocketables] Discuss on our forums.
