HOTT MD860: 7-Inch 1080p MID

September 13, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

HOTT look to be releasing their own Telechips MID/tablet, likely using the TCC8901 chip clocked at 600MHZ (which is even less impressive than the TCC8902 720MHz tab we tried) which will allow for competent 1080p video playback. The 7-inch MID will have a screen resolution of 800x480. File format support will be good, as expected with the TCC chip with support for most types, including all major ones such as MKV or MPG or AVI. Also is the feature of WiFi support but curiously this MID doesn't seem to run on the Android operating system - or if it does, it isn't explicitly stated so, though that is unlikely as any Android tab that uses a Telechips usually uses the TCC8902 rather than 8901 variant. All in all, this actually looks slightly disappointing. Or at the very least, dull. via

HOTT With Telechips Tablet/MID: MD800

August 26, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

HOTT, makers of the MD500 and MD700 MIDs have a new addition to their mobile internet device lineup: the MD800. This 7-inch MID is based on the Telechips TCC8902 chip, which in a brief test we found to have great 1080p video decoding capability, but also poor browser speeds and Android implementation. This MD800 Telechips tablet/MID has HDMI-out, OTG capability; it also has a g-sensor (accelerometer), and runs on Android version 2.1. This is another addition to the recent flurry of Telechips TCC8902-based tablets/MIDs and doesn't seem to offer anything out of the ordinary. via hott

HOTT’s 5-Inch MID Stocking Shelves

July 29, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

The HOTT MD500 should now be starting to stock shelves, according to imp3, after months of hype and promotion. To refresh your memory, the HOTT MD500 is a fairly unremarkable 5-inch MID that is set to run Google Android 1.5 - a surefire hint that inside it houses the Rockchip Rk2808 chip. Another surefire hint is that the MID is capable of decoding up to 720p videos, which is the limit of the 2808 chip. The firmware is looking to be slightly customised with preloaded apps such as QQ. All in all, nothing to get terribly excited over, though it does add another MID into the 5-inch range which is a welcome addition. It, however, is not selling for particularly cheap with a 899 Yuan price point attached which will no doubt be inflated when sold overseas. The RAmos W7 is a better choice. via

HOTT 5-Inch MID MD500

June 24, 2010 by HS in Tablet with No Comments.

HOTT are releasing the MD500, a 5-inch Android based MID hot on the heels of their MD700, the 7-inch variant. This 5-incher is powered by the Rockchip Rk2808 chip (and so is therefore capable of decoding up to 720p video) and runs on Android 1.5. The MD500 weighs in at approximately 190g and comes in capacities of 2GB to 16GB which is certainly quite a spread. All in all, this 5-inch device is another Rockchip based Android MID, but it comes in a smaller size than the usual 7-inchers we see. Not bad at all if you're looking for a portable, on-the-go mobile internet device. via iMP3

Sochip SC8600 to WT6106

June 1, 2010 by HS in Other with No Comments.

For those interested, this chip was found in the Ainol V8000HDB when that player was taken apart. However, according to the Ainol website, the V8000HDB is supposed to contain the Sochip SC8600 chip.  The HOTT HD390 also shares this chip. So what does this all mean? It most likely means that this chip is just the same Sochip SC8600 renamed which means functionality stays the same. This may seem like a strange move, the the adoption of a new name means that, to those less interested in knowing this kind of information, it seems that this chip is entirely unique and new. In fact, it is unknown if Sochip was even the original manufacturer of the SC8600 as that itself just could be a rename. It's all very confusing, isn't it, but best to keep up to speed if you're planning on purchasing a C

HOTT MD700 MID Hands-On at iMP3

May 31, 2010 by HS in Tablet with 1 Comment.

The HOTT MD700 has been given a test drive by the busy bees over at iMP3 and they have certainly put it through its paces, testing audio, video (with an extensive file format list test), displaying the UI, office program testing. One curious thing, though, is that web browsing appears to be sneakily missing aside from a reference and the MSN messenger that is clearly installed wasn't tested either. Overall the thing looks pretty solid, especially the office application but the on-screen keyboard might be less than convenient to use. In case you can't remember, the HOTT MD700 7-inch 800x480 MID uses the Telechips TCC8901 chip, has support for 1080p (1920×1080) HD decoding for following file formats: AVI, RM, RMVB, MKV, FLV, DAT, VOB, WMV, MPG, MP4, M4V video file formats; has suppo

HOTT MD700 w/ WiFi

May 6, 2010 by HS in PMP with No Comments.

Today seems to be a popular day for Chinese manufacturers to release or announce their players. Now we introduce to you the HOTT MD700 7-inch player, capable of full HD 1080p decoding with a screen resolution of 800x480. The HD stuff is pretty standard fair, but the interesting thing is that it comes with WiFi functionality - something that isn't all too common on the player market. In fact, the WiFi feature really is something quite special for a player like this. Further, despite the large 7-inch screen, the player still sports a fairly modest footprint, coming in at 192 × 115 × 14.5mm dimensions. The player utilises the Telechips TCC8901. Specs follow. Support for 1080p (1920x1080) HD decoding for following file formats: AVI, RM, RMVB, MKV, FLV, DAT, VOB, WMV, MPG, MP4, M4V

This RK2808 Android player looks familiar (w/ Video)

March 12, 2010 by Raz in Android, PMP with No Comments.

I don't know if Hott bought the same design plans as RAmos or they are simply OEMing it from RAmos, but the Hott MD500 certainly looks exactly like the RAmos W7. Aside from the fact the two look the same, the video that is shot of this device does give a little more insight to how Android is being configured for these RK2808 based players. Check out the video after the jump. Via Engadget & ARMDevices
