Well Hello There… Teclast K8 Gets The Treatment

September 10, 2010 by HS in Player Babed Out, Teclast with No Comments.

Ample and generous might be two words one might use to describe Teclast's babing-out tradition. Indeed, they have done it again, this time with their 7-inch "C-Paper" e-reader, the K8, an e-book reader that is also capapble of 720p playback. Certainly more than meets the eye at first, and in the following images there is certainly a lot that wanders up to the eye and offers greetings and good tidings. [gallery columns="4"] via imp3

Shinco HC666 – No, Nothing Satanic

August 7, 2010 by HS in PMP with No Comments.

Ominous model numbering aside, the Shinco HC666 is another in a recent string of ebook readers to feature 1080p video playback capability, making it much much more than a simple e-reader. Powered by the Chinachips CC1800 processor, the HC666 is a 5-inch device that is first and foremost an ebook reader, with file format support of PDF, PDB, UMD etc. and is secondarily a PMP, with 1080p video playback capability and impressive video file format support (MKV, AVI, FLV, VOB, RMVB, MPG DAT etc.). It's unknown what kind of operating system this has. via imp3

E50 Colour E-Book Reader: More Than An E-Book Reader

July 28, 2010 by HS in PMP with No Comments.

Recently we've begun seeing e-readers with non e-ink screens, allowing them functionality far, far greater than an e-ink screen could ever provide. The E50, by company ShenXingZhe, is a 5-inch e-book reader that is also capable of 720p video playback. It supports a wide variety of video files including RM/RMVB, WMV, AVI, MP4, FLV, VOB etc. It also supports, of course, e-book formats of PDF, EPUB, PDB, RTF, MOBI etc. The E50 packs a 1900mAh battery that supposedly provides roughly 8 hours of reading life. All in all, a little more than an e-reader. via imp3

Gemei GM2000 Colour E-Reader

July 27, 2010 by HS in Gemei with No Comments.

Gemei were making some waves on the internet with the video that surfaced of smooth colour PDF scrolling a while back. They have since debuted their GM2000 7-inch colour e-book reader that starts out in the 4GB flavour. The e-reader utilizes an LCD screen (after switching away from e-ink in the development process) meaning that battery life won't be stellar, but comic book reading will be far, far more attractive. The e-reader supports the standard file formats such as PDF, UMD, TXT, HTM etc. If the video that surfaced earlier is any indication, it looks like it may run on the Google Android OS, and Gemei are claiming this e-reader is capable of 1080p playback, which is certainly something interesting and makes us curious about what chip it's using. If it indeed does run Android, it

Sleek Fujitsu Prototype Colour E-Book Reader

April 30, 2010 by HS in Other with No Comments.

Doesn't that think up there just look pretty sleek? The colour quality isn't great, but what is really to be expected? Since something similar to Moore's law operates, I'm sure, in any technology field, we'd best better wait if we're not satisfied yet, but this Fujitsu prototype colour e-book reader simply is a cut above the rest, at the moment. It's only a prototype though. No word yet on release date (except that the product is expected some time before 2011) or price. The reader uses Fujitsu's FLEPia colour electronic paper technology in the prototype, with a screen resolution of 1024x768 at an 8-inch footprint. The device is therefore capable of displaying up to 260,000 colours which, though not desperately impressive, is still something to consider. The device also comes pac

Viewsonic Gets Ebook-Reader Wet – Who Isn’t, These Days?

April 29, 2010 by HS in Other, Random with No Comments.

Seems like everybody is jumping aboard the e-reader boat, so to speak, in the hopes they might sail downstream toward a large lake of profits. With every added competitor, though, that downstream gradually becomes upstream and we, the consumer, benefit. Good times, good times. In fact, last year Viewsonic had already announced their plans to get-in-gear and join the e-reader competition, and now 2 new models have surfaced on the Viewsonic Europe site, the VEB620 and the VEB625. Both devices look similar, feature 6-inch e-ink screens. The differentiating feature is that the VEB625 has more advanced touch screen operation and has WiFi support. This is no comic-book-browser, but it gets the simple job done. via iMP3

Paradigm Shift EER-051D ebook reader – Rockchip based

April 22, 2010 by Raz in Rockchip with No Comments.

Yes another eBook reader, this one is apparantly going to be the cheapest, read $130. This eBook reader was being hawked by every other booth at the Asia expo fair last week, which is where Paradigm Shift probably found it too. My reason for mentioning this on our blog is for the Rockchip RK2706 SoC that's running this eBook reader. Also want to mention the screen isn't eink, but rather as standard TFT screen. DIY eBook maker

April 9, 2010 by Raz in Random with No Comments.

At first i couldn't stop laughing, but the idea is quite ingenious. If you haven't already figured out how it works from the above picture, you're basically using your digital camera to make a stand that will photograph two pages of a book. Not the most efficient way to get stuff done, but at least you can save some of those old books that you may have around. Via Gizmodo

Teclast shows off dual screen eBook + MID

March 22, 2010 by Raz in Tablet, Teclast with No Comments.

I guess Teclast are trying to kill two birds with one stone with this yet to be named eBook + MID. Teclast recently showed of this hybrid at a Shenzhen eBook expo. The eBook portion of the device sports a 6.0" eInk screen, the MID portion has a 3.6" touch screen. The MID portion of this hybrid will run on Android, so playing videos, listening to music and browsing the internet will all be possible. I am not sure if the eBook portion will also run on Android or if the two parts will run in tandem or if the two run entirely separate from one another. At first i actually found this to be quite interesting, but after thinking for a while, it's easy to see that this wouldn't be the most pratical device to carry around and use, but good on Teclast for slightly thinking out of the box.
