December 15, 2010 by HS in Archos, Tablet with 3 Comments.

The Archos 70 has been taken apart and we get a look at this tablet's Cortex A8-based TI OMAP3630 internals, amongst other various bits and bobs. Always interesting to look inside these devices and Archos have absolutely been tearing it up with their Gen 8 tablet lineup, not to mention the recent mass firmware update that updated the entire Gen 8 line to Android 2.2 from its previous 2.1. Disembowelment after the break. Let's get started, shall we? Hello! That's it?! The small mainboard, large screen at 7-inches behind it, and two batteries. You know that old aphorism about whole's, sums, and parts. The two 3.7v battery packs totaling 3850mAh. The Samsung Galaxy has 4000mAh, for comparison. The mainboard and metal protective bracket. Charbax of ARMDevices has put together this short video showing the Archos Gen 8 tablets in operation, using the new Android 2.2 beta bios for these devices. The larger one is the Archos 7, a 7-inch tab 2 - the Archos 43 is a 4.3-inch MID, a smaller brother to the Archos 7, both running Android 2.2. Quite frankly, the small size MID is appealing to me, but at the same time slightly redundant if I just got a smartphone... but as I don't have one, appealing remains the thought of the day. The Archos 7 has some impressive speakers, to be honest, and both devices look real smooth. Charbax does mention that there remains a few bugs to be worked out, but this looks promising for both Archos owners, and the MID market in general. To refresh your memory, the these two Archos Gen 8 MIDs/Tablets

The above video shows Charbax of ARMdevices taking us through the Archos 7-inch Archos 70 tablet / MID unit. As you may recall, the Archos 70 was one of 5 new units to be recently announced by Archos, forming quite an impressive lineup. The Archos 70 makes use of a 1GHz Cortex ARm8 Texus Instruments OMAP3630 CPU, which is certainly a lot of punch. The 7-inch capacitive touchscreen will have a resolution of 800x480, not to mention the Archos 70 also has a camera, HDMI and will come in 8GB flavour. via armdevices
