Archos Gen 8 Lineup Gets FroYo

The Archos Gen 8 lineup gets an update to Android 2.2, among other things, with the latest mass-firmware release from Archos. The firmware update brings the Archos 28/32/43/70/101 Internet Tablets to Android 2.2, amidst various other bug fixes (external GPS now works), optimisations (better battery management) and the like: Higher performance: Just In Time compiler (JIT technology), makes applications run up to 5 times faster than previous 2.1 Eclair (firmware 1.0.84). Enhanced Microsoft® Exchange support: it is now possible to synchronize contacts and calendar events. Video: Archos 7 & 43 Gen 8 MIDs/Tabs

Charbax of ARMDevices has put together this short video showing the Archos Gen 8 tablets in operation, using the new Android 2.2 beta bios for these devices. The larger one is the Archos 7, a 7-inch tab 2 - the Archos 43 is a 4.3-inch MID, a smaller brother to the Archos 7, both running Android 2.2. Quite frankly, the small size MID is appealing to me, but at the same time slightly redundant if I just got a smartphone... but as I don't have one, appealing remains the thought of the day. The Archos 7 has some impressive speakers, to be honest, and both devices look real smooth. Charbax does mention that there remains a few bugs to be worked out, but this looks promising for both Archos owners, and the MID market in general. Charbax continues his assault on the IFA with this video of the recently announced Archos 43, a 4.3-inch Android-based MID. The Archos 43 has a (resistive touch)-screen resolution of 854x480, runs on Android 2.2 and is powered by the ARM Cortex A8-based Texus Instruments OMAP3630 processor clocked at 1GHz. 5 New Android Devices From Archos

Archos have reloaded and are now firing out 5 new Android devices, scheduled to hit the market soon. All 5 devices will run Android 2.2. After the break is information on all 5 models. Archos 28: 2.8-inch 320x240 resistive touchscreen; 4GB storage; WiFi; 800MHz Cortex A8 processor; $100. Archos 32: 3.2-inch display, same resolution as Archos 28; 8GB storage; HD720p capable camera; all else the same as the Archos 28; $150. Archos 43: 4.3-inch 854x480 resistive touchscreen; 1GHZ Cortex A8 processor; camera; $200. Archos 70: 7-inch 800x480 capacitive touchscreen; 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor; camera; HDMI; 8GB stoarge.
