SmartQ Tao – more information on main chipset

SmartQ Tao has been rife with speculation for what main chip it would be using, initally the reports seems that it may use the same Samsung ARM chip that is to be used on the Meizu M8. It has now been confirmaed that the player will stick to the same ADI Blackfin chip used in the SmartQ T5-II, the ADI Blackfin BF547 chip. This is actually not a big suprise, SmartQ is one of the very few MP4 player manufacturers to still favor using the more expensive American chipset, instead of the more commonly used Ingenic and Rockchip chipsets. The second generation Blackfin chip does have some serious power, so it will be well suited on a 3.3" touch screen (with a screen res of 480*320). Well this does look like one juicy little player. especially with SmartQs habit of making very nice looking

SmartQ Releases cheaper version of their T5-II player – The LE

SmartQ has announced a slightly downgraded, but cheaper priced, version of their ever popular SmartQ T5-II, dubbed the SmartQ T5-II LE, the player will only be missing the TV Out feature, apart from that, the player will use the same ADI chip and all other hardware and software (read emulation) capabiltiies. However the biggest difference between the two versions is in price, the LE will be priced almost RMB$200, about USD$30 cheaper than its TV Out touting counterpart. Although it isn't confirmed we also think that the LE probably won't support SmartQs wireless gamepad controller when it comes out, seeing how the wireless countroller was intended to be used in conjunction with the TV out, it would be pretty pointless to keep the wireless feature on a non tv out version.
