JXD 980 Video Review – Good Video player – Crappy everything else

December 30, 2008 by Raz in JXD, Video Review with 1 Comment.

Ok so by the end of the video you will probably be wondering why we are selling this player, because of its very low price and very good video performance, well better than performance than the RK27xx chipset and the older ingenic chipset. Those watching may be disappointed with the other features, but i want to stress, this player is ONLY good for video, although the audio quality from the Sunplus 8000 chip is surprisingly good, the music player, being so poorly developed, make its pointless to be used as an audio player. Anyways, good budget, hi res video support player - everything else, this player is absolutely horrible for (hope i made my point clear). Who know JXD may release a firmware that greatly improves the UI, we can always dream. Discuss on our forums

JXD 980 Pictures and Review – Sunplus 8000 Chipset Player

I received this last week the new JXD 980, a 4.3" screen player which uses the new Sunplus 8000 chipset. The Sunplus 8000 chipset is one of the new generation chipsets capable of playing higher resolution videos, the advertised resolution that is can max handle is 1280x720, other chipsets claim this also and consider them capable of playing '720p' resolution. The Sunplus 8000 can play high resolution videos at a high frame rate and retain audio sync, but not at the advertised resolution of 1280x720. The overall build quality of the JXD 980 isn't the best that i have seen, the front does look nice, but the buttons are cheap looking and feel cheap and they all have a very clicky sound to them. The back is not that nice, although it looks nice from a bit of distance, when you touch it th

JXD 980 Packs a Punch with the new Sunplus 8000 Chip

JXD, who has been producing some of the fugliest player to come out of China as of late, actually comes out punching with their JXD 980, it does sport a nice 4,3" screen, certainly not a touch screen with all those buttons around it, but that's not the important thing here. What really gives this baby its kick is the Sunplus 8000 chipset at its core. which is a combination of a ARM926, DSP and 3D graphics accelerator all in one. The chip can playback, at a full 30fps, videos in upto 1280x720 resolution, you may really possible never need to convert your videos on this player. The high speed DDR cache allows for better transfer rates between the NAND flash and the SP8000 chip, so it won't be bogged down with the same problem of the data transfer slowing video playback on RK2706 and JZ47x
