Ainol Novo 5 Unboxing & Photo Review

The Ainol Novo 5 is perhaps the closest we've seen to a portable "all-in-one not-phone" from China yet. It's a 5-inch, Android 2.2-running, RK2818-powered, WiFi-sporting, 720p HD-capable portable media player. Whew. Prior to it there was the SmartQ V5 and V3, both revisions held back by the TCC8902 chipset, stranded on Android 2.1 Eclair and plagued by miserable audio desync issues that otherwise neutralised the 1080p advantage the chip held. Then we saw the barrage of "Smart PMPs" - those 3.6 to 5-inch devices that boasted Android but were ultimately neutered as they lacked WiFi connectivity, arguably the only reason to stick the OS on a PMP. Now Ainol are making their entry into the Android field with their whole line of Novo tablets, from the interesting looking Novo 8 to the small No

AndroidSpin’s Review On The Nationite RockTab

December 13, 2010 by Alex in Nationite, PMP Review, Tablet with 2 Comments.

AndroidSpin have reviewed our Nationite Rocktab - the 7-inch Rockchip RK2808, Android 1.5 tablet. Agreeing with AndroidSpin's acknowledgment of the many 'entry level' tablets that are crowding the market, we're happy to say that the RockTab has been stated to be a device worth wading through the crowd for. "There is a difference in this new low end tablet compared to many we’ve seen… It’s good!" It would seem that AndroidSpin's overview on our Rockchip tablet is that, one, it comes in great packaging (always a good thing as you don't want to receive something that falls out of a gross, damp cardboard bits-of-a-box) bar the somewhat loose accessories floating at the back of the box. Two, the RockTab has a good, solid build, and three, the software, interface, and all things to do

Player Review – RAmos T11 Pro Pt.2

December 8, 2010 by Alex in PMP Review, Ramos with No Comments.

Hello again. As promised, here is part two of the RAmos T11 Pro review - Of Two Faces, This Is The Other. This is where I indulge you on the second OS this dual-booting player states it can run - the Android OS (or lack there of). Of Two Faces, This Is The Other To remind you quickly on what the RAmos T11 Pro is - It's a 5-inch resistive touchscreen player that is powered by Novatek's 1080 chip. It supports 720 as well as 1080p video playback, and has an HDMI output. The T11 Pro is also said to be a dual-booting device, allowing the user to use the RAmos PMP OS, as well as Android - however, it does not have WIFI. Make of that what you will. Anxious to see Android on the little player, I set about getting the Android boot file onto an SD card and booting up the player wi

Player Review – RAmos T11 Pro

December 3, 2010 by Alex in PMP Review, Ramos with 3 Comments.

This is a review of the RAmos T11 Pro - a PMP that we do not sell, but a PMP that we (I) enjoyed tinkering around with. My first impression was that it somewhat resembled the Onda VX590 (other than the screen size - VX590: 6-inches and T11 Pro: 5-inches), which was the subject of my last blog review. I soon discovered the differences however, the most obvious being that the T11 Pro is a dual boot player which runs both a PMP OS as well as an Android OS - however, with Android comes the expectation of WIFI. This PMP has a lack there of - A.K.A a "smart" PMP. We ain't got no qualms though, as it has recently come to light that WIFI can actually cause illness in certain cases, as well as kill trees, so no whining there please. Other differences include HDMI, and it's metallic front shell.

Video: Cartelps11 Unboxes Window G85 & Newman/Newsmy Momo M-Touch

Forum member cartelps11 has written up reviews (as well as down video unboxing) of the Window G85 player (with the new and improved widget-based system) as well as the Newman / Newsmy Momo M-Touch WinCE-based player. Below are his conclusions on the Window G85 and videos after the break. Window G85: "I've had this player now for about a week. And I can honestly say that I might start buying for Window products if there the same build quality as the G85. It really feels solid compared to other devices. This has been getting much attention when I take it to school. I really like that the plastic isn't glossy, I don't know how else to describe it other than that it is soft and feels good. Even though it's white colored it still looks new even though I've been taking it everywhere wit

Nationite RockTab Photo Review By TWP

TheWarriorPoet, resident forum wiseman, has done a photo review of the Nationite RockTab, with some excellent photographs and analysis points, giving his pros and cons of the Android 1.5, RK2808 tablet. Some quotes include: "[T]he resistive screen works quite well. One of the best I've used. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the on screen keyboard works." "Rockchip, need I say more? Sounds very good, but the stock audio player can be a little buggy at times." "I use a secured wireless setup here at home. The Rocktab recognizes it with no issues at all[.]" "Though perhaps not as powerful as some of the other MID's running V2.2, this thing is a lot of fun." "The Nationite Rocktab won't disappoint you. It delivers, and delivers well." You can read the rest of the review

An MP4Nation Review – The Onda VX590Touch

November 9, 2010 by Alex in Onda, PMP, PMP Review with No Comments.

That there is Onda's VX590 touchscreen PMP. It's one of MP4Nation's frequently asked about players so if you read on, you might get the answer you were looking for when browsing and questioning what PMP to get for the upcoming winter holiday. You might not get the answer you were looking for however, In which case, just buy it anyways. First and foremost, the VX590 is a clean, nice looking and, most noticeably, lightweight of the PMP family. It's got 1080p HD video playback and TV out-port, a 6-inch resistive touchscreen, and uses the oh-so powerful SoChip SC9800 which supports basic PDF files, allowing you to use it as an e-reader - hooray! The VX590's detailed spec list. Can support many video formats including HD 720P MKV, AVI, RM, RMVB, MP4, MOV, VOB, DAT, FLV, 3GP,

Video Review: Nationite RockTab

October 22, 2010 by HS in Nationite, PMP Review, Video, Video Review with No Comments.

Forum member dragon2knight has performed a solid, in-depth and objective review of the Nationite RockTab on video, along with demonstrating some of the RockTab's best features, and some of the worst. It's a good review, with loads of hands-on information on useability and practicality of the unit that numbers alone could never convey. To refresh your memory, the RockTab is Nationite's newest low-cost Android MID, sporting the Rockchip RK2808 chip and running on Android 1.5. It's not meant to be a do-it-all powerhouse - that title's reserved for the MIDnite - instead, the RockTab is a lightweight, low-key MID that'll give you good functionality for web browsing, music and video playing, as well as various other Android apps, such as easy-on-the-CPU games and image viewers. The VX530 – User Impressions

September 3, 2010 by HS in Forum Member Related, Onda, PMP Review with No Comments.

For all of you wondering about the Onda Vx530 Touch player, dragon2knight has received his and has posted a brief review in a first impressions thread on the MP4 Nation forums. It took seemingly forever, but I finally found a worthy successor to my now deceased OS-42. I find it to be a great all around player, a true jack of all trades, and long missing from the Chinese scene for waaaay too long. Highly recommended! You can view that first impressions thread over at our forums. Onda VX530 product page.

Bmorn BM999 – The Big Boy RK2808 Android MID – Pictures!

July 20, 2010 by Raz in Android, PMP Review, Rockchip with 2 Comments.

Bmorn were nice enough to send me a pre-mass production unit of their new BM999 MID. The MID is essentially the same, softwarewise as the ifamous apad, it runs on Android 1.5 that has been customized to specifically run on the Rockchip RK2808 SoC. Unlike the aPad, the BM999 MID actually is quite well built and has a large 8.9" 1024x600 resolution screen, which really makes quite a difference in the user experience. As the above image shows, the BM999 really dwarfs the 7" screened aPad, infact the 8.9" screen, of the BM999, is larger than the entire apad. Its not only more bigger, but the BM999 is also heavier, the unit weighs about 600g alone, so its not your light weight player and its certainly something you would need to carry in a backpack. Apart from the large screen and touch
