Video: SODDIT – LEDs And Where You’d Least Expect Dem

Strange & ODDity In Technology – welcome to SODDIT, a hopeful new regular at MP4Nation. We’ll scour the internet superstores and bring to you the intriguing, the weird, the strange, the odd, and the downright unbelievable. Please, don’t let the loose stringency of our acronym naming system turn you away.

In this edition of SODDIT we look at LEDs – Light Emitting Diodes – and where you’d least expect to find them – more specifically, in your mouth and in your bathroom. Click after the break to see what we mean.

First off we have LED braces all the way from (as you might of guessed) Japan. This invention by Motoi Ishibashi and Daito Manabe was created to be used to as an advertisement technique for a certain department store – of what the store sells, we have no idea. Perhaps smiles as the LED braces light up when the wearer uses 12 of their face muscles to pull a smile. The LEDs used in the braces can also flash in different colours and speed according to the settings you’ve chosen on a computer app over a wireless connection. Forget gangster grillz, it’s these bad boys that you want to sport whilst cruisin’ down the boulevard, which is exactly what the Japanese youth of today are doing. Check out the video below to see a bunch of pretty smiles on a bunch of pretty ladies.

The second SODDIT use of LEDs can be found in your bathroom. This special shower head is fitted with LEDs that turn a specific colour in accordance to what temperature the water is whilst flowing, which is pretty darn cool.

If the water is below 32°C (90°F) it will flow green; for temperatures above 32°C and below 41°C (105°F), the water will flow blue; and with a temperature above 42°C (107°F) and below 45°C (113°F), it flows red. Anything above that and the shower head will start to flash to warn you that you’ve gone to scolding point. It’s a pretty fancy and cool way to indicate the temperature of your shower water, and if you’re wild enough, you can even shower raver style – surely the change from cold to hot water will make even the un-danceable dance. Just make sure you don’t strobe light it as the dancing will surely turn into a fair bit of mayhem, and then no dancing at all, for a long time.
