Move Over Honeycomb (And Chome?), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Is Coming

It is that time again when we start that familiar buzz about the latest Android OS to be released. I’m sure you still remember what that was like for Honeycomb, well now it’s all about Ice Cream Sandwich. This also comes shortly after Google’s introduction to their Chrome OS that has been optimised for the tablet. Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich – has an apparent release date of October this year – possibly around the same time Apple releases their iPhone 5. Read more after the break.

The latest version which is seen as the successor to the somewhat floppy Android 3.x Honeycomb was originally due for Q4 2011, however as competition goes, Apple’s release plans has most probably prompted Google to act sooner, hence the October date. But what will make Ice Cream Sandwich better than the previous OS version? For one, Ice Cream Sandwich will be put on not just tablets, but smartphones as well – one OS version for both platforms! With big plans in sight from Google, we can also expect improved features such as improvements to the Android camera app, improved facial recognition, a resolution-agnostic experience and hopefully many more. We also spoke about a possible Chome influence in our previous blog, however that’s still very much uncertain at this point. Much like we were before the release of the first tablet orientated Android OS – Honeycomb – we’re pretty excited about Ice Cream Sandwich. And I’m sure It’s not just tablet owners that feel that way as well. Let’s just hope this version doesn’t buzz out like the last.
