Google Refurbishes And Revamps The Android Marketplace

People attending the Google I/O may have been paying most of their attention to the announcement of Google’s Chrome and all that comes with, but Google also revealed another little gem worth noticing: the improved version of the Android Marketplace for web, tablet and phone – now up and running. The main focus of the newer version is to make app searching easier, as well as discovering new apps which brings it up to par with the easy Amazon and Apple app stores. Find out what the improved version brings after the break.

The update includes having country specific top app charts – these ‘tops’ include genres such as top grossing, top free, top new paid, etc. There is also an Editor’s Choice list – a list of apps specially chosen by the Marketplace staff that ranges in apps from Productivity to Games.

There is a Top Developer’s list that recognises app developers who have created the highest quality, most popular and most notable apps on the marketplace. These developers – all 150 of them (initially) – get a special icon that appears wherever their names are throughout the market. Another upgrade the update brings is in the Marketplace’s algorithm for showing related apps. This means you’ll see apps frequently browsed by others who have viewed the app you’re on and apps people have installed along with that app. You will also be able to see related apps after you’ve downloaded and installed an app.

Extra good news for Android smartphone holders as the Marketplace’s UI for Android smartphones has been refreshed. The new Marketplace version is already out on the web and can be grabbed here, and should be coming to your Android tablet and smartphone if it hasn’t already.
