Unboxing the Telepad 7C Cortex-A8 Tablet
A new addition to our MP4nation store front is the Telepad 7C Cortex-A8 tablet – a tablet that’s powered by a Telechips TCC8803 processor, has a 7-inch capacitive multitouch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 and runs Android 2.2 (FroYo) as its OS. At first glance the Telepad 7C seemed like an incredibly easy tablet to get along with. The touch response, look and feel was nice and with the knowledge of it being powered by a decent CPU, I had a feeling that reviewing this tablet would be a breeze. Find out more after the break.
BOX AND TREATS
Packaging for the Telepad 7C was pretty bog standard – China style Android cardboard box complete with standard earphones, AC wall charger, US- to-MicroUSB cable and a USB host-to-MicroUSB cable.
BODY
The Telepad 7C has an immediately noticeable nice-looking design about it. First of all it’s thin – 7mm thin to be precise – and second, its nice matte plastic shell makes it look sturdy, as well as the fact that it’s not too light (and therefor delicate) – it weighs in at 365 grams. Its back is clean with just a single speaker on the bottom left and reset button on the right, and its from bezel has but a single ‘back’ button on the right platform, and a camera on the top right corner.
Its home and menu buttons are on its top perimeter, whilst the right perimeter houses a MiniUSB port, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MicroSD card slot, an AC jack and its power button. The device was nice to hold and despite its thinness, felt solid and comfortable in one or two hands.
FACE
The Telepad 7C runs Android 2.2 as its OS which is a very nice and easy operating system to use and certain features like the image browser seemed to be pretty up to date – it had 3D-like scrolling. Its image, audio and video playback all worked very well. HD images came out crisp and clean, audio files played smoothly and in detail and the 1080p HD video quality (which worked for some files, but not all unfortunately) was on par with any other great HD video player.
Web browsing also worked a charm – sites such as gmail and facebook were easily accessible and its Flash 10.1 support proved to be… supported – HD youtube videos played without a hitch. As for app games – I managed to get fairly distracted flinging myself through the Angry Brids Rio levels. Everything on this device worked and worked well. I’d give it a pat on the back but knowing my luck, that pat will see its downfall (so instead I rewarded it with more Angry Birds gameplay).
OTHER
The Telepad 7C has a camera function that also records video. Both worked fine. Its e-book reader was also fine – I had myself a healthy read of sherlock holmes. Scrolling through the pages were quick and easy and required no detective skills what-so-ever. In fact, the same can be said for pretty much everything with this tablet.
CONCLUSION
As you can probably tell by now (unless you’ve jumped straight to this conclusion), I’ve had it easy with this tablet – It looks great and holds well and its user interface, features and playback was, well… a breeze to use. Its hardware may make this tablet a generic one, but its capacitive multitouch screen and overall build makes this tablet perfect for people wanting a decent yet affordable tablet that you’ll actually be impressed with.

How about the battery life while surfing and reading text as well as straight up playing 720P and 1080P content?
Oh so now it is 800×480 only. Well, in that case I’ll go back to waiting for the SmartQ Seven. Or will buy a Nook. 800×480 is less than my phone, for chrissakes….
Sorry about the initial mistake – the Telepad 7C is indeed 800 x 480, which may not be the highest resolution but it means the Telepad 7C’s price tag will be much more affordable than that of the SmartQ Seven.

So are there any plans/dates/prices for SmartQ Ten and Seven? IPS screen and A9 sure sound like an attractive package….
No plans as of yet, I’m afraid!
