Leaked Next-Gen Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip Details

Leaked information on Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon chip has found the company to be sounding rather ambitious and earnest in their latest product-to-come. The company suggested that the new Snapdragon chip would not only beat existing ARM Cortex-A9 chipped devices like the iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom, but will also beat the up-coming Cortex-A15 chip by the time its new chip architecture arrives – the Krait – which Qualcomms four new chip models will be based on: MSM8270, MSM8930, MSM8960, and APQ8064. The new chips will be made on a 28 nanometer processor and is said to be able to run up to 2.5GHz – almost 23% more computing power than the Cortex-A15 chip as well as 47% less power for the same performance. In comparison to the next-gen Snapdragon’s predecessor – the new chip should be able to run five times faster in raw CPU power, and four times faster in graphics for ‘console quality gaming’. Further information also states that the chip will be able to do 1080p video playback as well as 7.1-channel Dolby Surround, and will support a 20-megapixel camera. The MSM8960 chip which will have built-in 3G and LTE-based 4G hardware, and will be shipped to companies for testing by the end of Spring, whilst the rest will be shipped by the end of the year. This mean that we could be seeing devices with the next-gen Snapdragon chip in them by next year.
