Video: Running Ubuntu Linux On the Motorola Xoom

We live in a fast-paced world where we move on from something quicker than realising why we even liked it in the first place. In that regard, Android 3.0 Honeycomb on the Motorola Xoom is so last month. This months flavour is Ubuntu Linix running on the same device. One, Thomas Sohmers has taken the time to figure out how to run Ubuntu on the Motorola Xoom and has granted us with the instructions and a demo video so that we can do it ourselves. If you’re apprehensive about swapping the OS on the tablet you’ve just spent USD$800 on, then fret no more as running the Ubuntu OS does so in conjunction to Honeycomb – you won’t need to get rid of the Xoom’s original OS for Ubuntu Linex. The Ubuntu OS is actually installed and powered by a VNC client. This also allows you to easily swap between apps being run on the different OS’. You can also remove the Ubuntu OS from your Xoom if it doesn’t tickle your fancy at no expense to the original Honeycomb OS. The video after the break shows Ubuntu version 9.10 which can support touch as well as a virtual mouse. Check it out after the break.
