M98: iPhone 4 Clone & FroYo
iPhone 4 fever came and went quite a while ago, but evidently not for the clone-phone manufacturers – the iPhone 4 is likely to still be a hot commodity over in the Mainland, but with a not-so-hot price tag. Enter the cloned iPhone 4 units, and you’ve got the ideal solution to a certain area of demand. This unit, the M98, is the latest of the bunch, running Android 2.2 FroYo. All good so far, right? Well, until you hear that it is powered by the MTK6516 chip clocked at 416MHz which is sadly underpowered and won’t give you a particularly good experience with Android. It will be usable, to a certain degree, but could just become an exercise in frustration. The 3.5-inch (presumably resistive) touchscreen has a resolution of 320 x 480 but supposedly a better revision is due out with a more common 480 x 800 screen resolution. The model number M98 comes from it’s thickness, at just 9.8mm.
