Window N3 A Low-Cost N5 Pro
The Window N3 is another in a fast-growing fad of “smart PMPs”, running Android 2.1 but without WiFi access, arguably lacking a vital part of the Android experience. With that aside, the N3 is basically a low-cost Windows N5 Pro, perhaps aimed at students. Where have they cut corners, you ask? Well for starters, this is no longer a 5-inch device but a 4.3-inch one, so the screen resolution has been dropped from the N5 Pro’s 800 x 480 to 480 x 272. Other than that, the N3 seems similar to the N5 Pro, with the same Rockchip RK2816 processor at its heart and Android 2.1 OS slapped on top. The N3 will continue to use the widget system that is used on the N5 Pro, and 3D desktop effects will come standard. The N3 will ship only in 8GB flavour, and will have an accelerometer. It’ll do 720p video playback with ease but not much more, if any. A solid little player, but we still think Android is unnecessary.
Footnote: it may be interesting to hear that Angry Birds doesn’t actually work on RK2816/8 so the promotional image pictured above is telling something of a little white lie.
