Iriver U100 To Come In WiFi/Non-WiFi Models

iriver-u100

The much anticipated Iriver has had the nature of its release clarified, and the previously hazy details about WiFi connectivity have not turned out to be false. The U100 models will be divided into two basic versions – one with WiFi and one without. The WiFi connectivity will allow for access to Iriver’s own online music store, which means you’ll be able to download music as you go, provided there’s a hotspot. We’re not sure if you can do tethering with this device, or if it can connect to a 3G-based WiFi hotspot that many phones can do. Interestingly, the non-WiFi version only comes in 4GB capacity while the WiFi-enabled version comes in either 8GB or 16GB capacity. Both models come with MicroSD expansion opportunity. Other specs include a capacitive 3.1-inch (320 x 480) touchpanel display, a CPU clocked at 600MHz, HD video playback support of up to 720p, and of course extensive music playback capability with up to 13 EQ presets, 5 of which are user definable. A very packed feature set, and certainly a competitor to devices like the iPod Touch or even Samsung Galaxy Player in the media playback respect. We’re not sure if the device will come loaded with a browser, but if it did it would only raise its value.
