Chuwi P500 A 5-inch E-Reader & PMP
Chuwi have announced a smaller version of the P700 e-book reader, the P500 measuring up at a more portable 5-inches. The P500 is being billed as an e-book reader first, supporting a wide variety of e-book formats including ePub, PDB and PDF, but also handles 1080p video of all the usual formats: AVI, MKV, WMV, VOB, RMVB etc. It adds to a growing lineup of PMPs sharing e-book reader functionality, or vice versa if you prefer. Certainly a step forward, but one wonders if it is coming slightly too late amidst the MID and tablet craze, where devices ranging from smaller than 5-inches to larger than 10-inches are carrying the same kind of functionality by virtue of having access to the internet and running on operating systems that are able to both do media playback and read e-books, such as Windows 7 or Android. Too little too late? We’ve yet to see and evidently there still exists a market for these kinds of devices.
