Smart Devices’ New Tablet: R10
Smart Devices’ new tablet, the SmartQ R10, has apparently been attending the iPad-alike Design School, heavily borrowing from the iPad aesthetic… you might say that they missed the bus, train and plane on this one, though. A little late to the game, Smart Devices’ R10 is a 9.7-inch device with a fairly impressive 1024×768 screen resolution. There is some speculation that two screen versions may be released – one capacitive type and once resistive type. If this is indeed so it is a welcome direction for the Chinese tablet market to move into. Other than that, though, we don’t have much more information. We’re not sure what kind of processor it will use – whether or not it will stick with the current Telechips TCC lineup that Smart Devices has in their SmartQ product line. It appears the R10 will have 3G support as indicated by a 3G SIM slot (image after break). There is no confirmation yet on what version of Android it will run; it could even run Android 2.2 as some recent firmwares have allowed 2.2 on older SmartQ 2.1 products. Either way, take a look after the break for a picture of this thing’s rear, as well as side, and let’s all hope Smart Devices comes out with something that’s a winner – something that could plug up the holes on what seems like a sinking ship.

Seems a little unfair to accuse SmartQ of ripping off Apple when they had their tablets out BEFORE the Ipad!
Well the shell is a clear copy of the iPad, in many respects. SmartQ have had tablets out before the iPad, but previously they had their cream-white shell which was unique to their own. China tabs these days have latched onto the iPad hype by copying the shell / chassis design. It’s not bad, but it wears thin on those who see them everyday.
So let me get this straight, any rectangular case with a metal back is a rip off of Apple?
GET REAL.
Apple didn’t invent anything, and they’re made in chinese sweatshops. At least SmartQ pay their staff a living wage.
I think you’re letting your very obvious bias get in the way of all this here.
If you look at SmartQ’s previous products, such as the V7 tablet, you’ll see some rather unique styling. Then the iPad look-alikes start taking the Shanzhai market by storm.
SmartQ made the correct business decision in switching to a look that looks like the iPad.
Are you telling me that it is purely coincidence that every metal-backed black-framed one-button on the front panel tablet, that looks like an iPad, came out only after the iPad was released?
GET REAL.
