RK2818 W7001 Now With Front Camera

We’ve seen a similar RK2818 device before – the Window N6 – and we’ve certainly blogged about it plenty, but what’s different about this is one – the W7001 – is the fact that it has a front camera. It may be a small and perhaps insignificant change but a change non-the-less. We can however go into the more significant fact that the Rockchip RK2818 is poised to be flooding the market soon. Rockchip’s much-hyped – and somewhat disappointing – flagship, the RK2818 does 720p HD video, runs Google’s Android 2.1, and comes with 256MB DDR2 RAM. As we’ve mentioned in previous blogs, there isn’t much difference between Rockchip’s previous chip, the RK2808 that only did Android 1.5 and had limited 128MB SDRAM.

As for how the RK2818 runs – it runs somewhat disappointingly. We know this first hand from a test sample we have in the office. Our general, overall opinions where that the resistive touchscreen lags, there were evident bugs and it seems to be a beta version of the software. Also, our RK2818 did not come with a front camera :( .
