Newsmy / Newman M50 – Another “Smart” PMP
We’ve yet another incoming “smart” MP4 player riding the Android tidal wave that’s bound to come crashing down sometime soon on these kinds of devices, leaving us all a bunch of floundering fish gasping for air… ok, dramatics aside, Android-powered PMPs without WiFi don’t really do it for me, and neither does this Newman / Newsmy M50. I know that arguments exist for them – it allows for greater versatility of the actual device; Android is likely to be inherently more refined than, say, some hastily designed PMP UI… perhaps even, according to a recent comment, WiFi is not suitable for some people, or for trees. However, to me, a PMP without WiFi and with Android seems to be lacking one of the most integral parts of the Android non-mobile-phone experience: the marketplace. Just my two cents. Anyway the M50 is a 5-inch 800×480 device that can play up to 720p HD video (is there a Rockchip inside of you?) which can handle myriad of file formats (including but not limited to MKV, AVI, RMVB, MP4, MPG etc.), has an accelerometer and looks like it might run Android 2.1 with a slightly customised UI, but I’m just guessing there. Either way, we expected more Android-powered PMPs and now we’re getting them.
