An MP4Nation Review – The Onda VX590Touch

That there is Onda’s VX590 touchscreen PMP. It’s one of MP4Nation’s frequently asked about players so if you read on, you might get the answer you were looking for when browsing and questioning what PMP to get for the upcoming winter holiday. You might not get the answer you were looking for however, In which case, just buy it anyways. First and foremost, the VX590 is a clean, nice looking and, most noticeably, lightweight of the PMP family. It’s got 1080p HD video playback and TV out-port, a 6-inch resistive touchscreen, and uses the oh-so powerful SoChip SC9800 which supports basic PDF files, allowing you to use it as an e-reader – hooray!

The VX590′s detailed spec list.

- Component Video out (cables sold serperate)

- Rich new User Interface

As for the size of the VX590, it’s dimensions are roughly: H – 95mm x W – 165mm x D – 10mm. Given It’s size, the fact that, with the help of the SoChip SC9800, it’s able to play such stellar 1080p HD videos is something that makes you really appreciate technology. What’s even more smile-worthy is knowing that it’s only going get better and better – until we run out of metal and power resources that is. The player also comes complete with an earphone port, a TV out-port, a USB jack, a micro SD slot and a power button.
Play
As for my personal review on how the VX590 runs, I’m happy to report that the video playback on the 6-inch screen is smooth, looks great and is very much the players main and best feature. This is all due to the widely popular and renown SoChip SC9800 which had no trouble taking on 1080p formats – video quality in it’s prime. I write this yet I’m currently listening to the Door’s ‘Love Me Two Times’ on it’s audio player and I’m just as chuffed! It’s audio quality, coupled with the fantastic Brainwavz M2′s make for music listening an experience worth working to! My leg literally will not stop a-tappin’.

Touch
In terms of it’s touch screen and U.I, I’m actually one of those avid nail-biters so unfortunately the resistive touchscreen is not compatible – or rather I am not compatible with it’s resistive touchscreen – no worries however as I’ve found the great aid of the mighty stylus. All is good now. So, back to the U.I, it’s great! It’s smooth with minimal lag (which can be expected with most touchscreen players). The only issue I have is the fact that you have to do everything on the touchscreen with the exception of the power button. There is no volume, back, home or skip track buttons which would of made flipping through tracks easier if you’re on the go. But, to go back and forth like I have thus far – no worries there however as the resolution and colours displayed on the screen are so nice, I don’t mind turning on the screen to change one music track at all, not in the slightest! Hell, I’ll be sprinting at 85 miles an hour and still hold the screen up to my face to change tracks.
Hold
One of the great things about being able to sprint whilst watching the VX590 is the fact that it’s so light, it’s not going to tire my frail arms. The player weighs around 224 g – a weight even a child is capable of lifting high above their head – making for portability easy and not a dead weight aspect.
Watch
The VX590′s TV-out was the last thing to test. In a swift conclusion, first and foremost, it works. Secondly, we tried it at 480p as well as 1080p, both on the same HD TV and it’s safe to say, both had stellar colour and detail quality. From Korean pop stars to cars driving too fast, too furiously, the SC9800 yet again give’s us another excuse to stay at home and watch, well, Korean pop stars and crashing cars. As for the aspect ratio – I had the option of 4:3 to 16:9 – so wide-screen coupled with a 1080p resolution and you’ve got yourself a pretty neat home cinema.
All in all, the Onda VX590, given it’s weight, size, price and CPU, is a pretty solid and great portable media player. From 1080p video playback to e-book reading to 1080p widescreen TV-out playback, if you’re looking to get bang for your buck and take it comfortably around with you I’d go for this guy. Unless of course you’re driving a car too fast and too furiously, in which case you should be watching the road. Drive safe people! And for all you Korean pop stars out there, keep up the good dancing, but you can still buy theVX590.

The Onda VX590 is currently at the discounted price of USD$109.50 and can be preordered at www.MP4Nation.net! The Onda VX590 comes with one USB cable, one set of earphones and a manual.
