Whole Cube Widget Series Detailed

cube-widget-series

Cube are getting widget-happy and are bandying about a full lineup of widget-based PMPs – that is, PMPs with widget-like Flash UIs. We’ve seen these before on Window players, and they seem to becoming increasingly popular as the customizable desktops are rapidly catching consumers’ fancies. The entire lineup is comprised, so far, of the H700HDT, a 4.3-inch 480×272 768p player; the H900HDT, a 7-inch 1024×600 1280p player with a Windows 7-like interface; the H500HDT which is a 5-inch 800×480 1280p player; and the B33HDT which is a 3.5-inch 800×480 720p player.

Where these model differ from previous Widget Players like the Window G89 is that they all utilise Sochip CPUs, rather than the Rockchips (with the possible exception of the B33HDT). The H900HDT and H500HDT both use the Sochip SC9800 (Boxchip F10), while the H700HDT uses the Sochip SC8600 (Boxchip F16). The B33HDT may use the Boxchip F15 (a 720p variant of the F16) but we are unsure, as 720p and widget UIs are firmly RK territory. Some of these models may already be available, such as the B33HDT (not certain), and they all utilise a widget-based UI that looks fairly cool at first, but one wonders if the novelty will wear off sharpish.
