Bmorn Keeps On Firing: BM-569

September 30, 2010 by HS in Bmorn, PMP with No Comments.

The Chinese PMP market is certainly fickle. It's hard to adopt the Apple business model and only support a small range of products. Instead, companies churn out model after model, duplicating feature sets, covering the losses of one run with the profits of another. Bmorn keep on firing with their product releases with the BM-569, a 5-inch 800x480 1080p PMP. It doesn't bring anything new to the table - and we never expected that it would - but this PMP looks to be solid all-around, with wide video format support (MKV, AVI, WMV, MPG, MP4, VOB, DAT, RMVB etc.), PDF reading capability, TV-Out, and your basic image viewer for JPEGs and GIFs and the like. The PDF reader might hint at this unit housing a Sochip processor, but that hasn't been made official yet. Solid, slightly naff looking al

Gpad 701 Mimicks iOS UI

September 29, 2010 by HS in Tablet with 2 Comments.

The Gpad 701 (whether related to the Gpad G10 or not remains to be seen), features a "quick press" button that will instantly transform your UI from the standard Android default to this funky imitation of the iPad's UI - the iOS UI. The button is the Home key, so this is likely some customised launcher that is pre-loaded into all units which is a pretty nifty thing to include with what looks to be a fairly cheap China tab. The Gpad 701 runs Android 2.1 and sports the Telechips TCC8902 (720MHz) chip which means it should handle 1080p video with ease. The customised UI hints at greater devotion to the software side of things so this TCC Android implementation may actually surprise a few skeptics, such as me. It's got 256MB DDR2, an 800x480 7-inch resistive touchscreen, and also has support

Video: More Samsung Galaxy Tab Hands On

September 29, 2010 by HS in Tablet, Video with No Comments.

We thought it about time to re-hype this thing... just because. The Samsung Galaxy Tab stars in yet another hands on video, showing off browser function with pinch zooming of websites and some swiping action. It actually seems to hitch every now and then, but that's not uncommon even with the highly powered devices. You get a good look at the viewing angles side to side and bottom, and the screen performs pretty darn well. Anyway, if an image is worth a thousand words, than these few I've written here are no match for the video above. Make up your own minds! via tablet-news

ICOO Solider On With E600P

September 29, 2010 by HS in ICOO, PMP with No Comments.

ICOO are continuing to release players, with the E600P being their latest. It's a 5-inch 800x480 touchscreen player that looks, if we're to take the rendering above at face value, to have a kind of widget system, though that remains to be really seen. It could just be a statically designed desktop display rather than a configurable widget system. The styling is nice and reminiscent of the minimalist Window and Cube players we've seen, not to mention Ainol. There isn't, though, that much room for design innovation - especially not when on a budget. Though it has yet to be said, if ICOO continue with their trend I suspect they'll go with a Sochip SC9800 processor, and will likely have HDMI out; at the very least, it will have some form of video output. via imp3

New Renderings of Teclast Tablet Surface

September 29, 2010 by HS in Tablet, Teclast with No Comments.

Click images for larger. Teclast have released new renderings of their proposed tablet, previously rumoured to be called the Tpad, but now with a model number to match: the T720. From the images above it looks like there will be two versions: one with 3G as well as WiFi and one with only WiFi. It looks like that these tablets will run on the Android OS, likely version 2.1, and will be capable of 720p video decoding which might indicate it uses the Rk2818 chip, though nothing has been confirmed. These look to be 7-inches in size, though that is just an estimate based off of previous images and rumours. All in all, the design looks good and understated. There are no gimmicks here. via teclast

Cube’s Latest: H700HDT

September 28, 2010 by HS in Cube, PMP with No Comments.

Cube are coming out with a new player, a 4.3-inch 768p capable PMP called the H700HDT. It's a touchscreen PMP sporting the Sochip SC8600 AKA Boxchip F16 processor which means that it'll do 768p (1366x768) playback of most video file formats. It's got OTG, a PDF e-book reader as well as a widget system that has become popular with the likes of Cube and Window. It sports the same colour-crazy UI we've seen before and, while not bad, is certainly not for everyone. This seems like a rehash of what we've seen before and isn't anything to get overly excited about. Another solid player in a massively available size range with a new, fun-for-the-moment widget-based UI. via imp3

JXD A16: Delicious Looking Gaming Device/PMP

September 28, 2010 by HS in JXD, PMP with No Comments.

JXD are well known for their portable gaming handhelds, but never have they seen such style as with the A16, an obvious knockoff of the new generation of iPhones and iTouches. Still, though, it looks great and doubles as a PMP player with 720p video playback capability. Not bad, if you ask me. It comes in 5 colours and is built primarily to play games though, in case you hadn't noticed from the buxom blonde all too apparent in the promotional material. The A16 has a 4.3-inch screen making it a very portable device, and measures just 9.8mm thin. Also included in the feature set is a 5 (or .5)-megapixel camera, an e-book reader, FM radio etc. All in all, it looks pretty interesting, if mostly for aesthetic alone. via imp3

Onkyo Unveil 3 Windows 7 Tablets In Japan

September 28, 2010 by HS in Tablet with 1 Comment.

Japanese firm Onkyo are releasing 3 new Windows 7 tablets into the Japanese market - understandably, when looking at these, not only the Japanese are going to be excited. These tablets are scheduled to ship next month in Japan, and will be available in two sizes: 10.1-inches and 11.6inches. The latter will have a screen resolution of 1366x768, while the former will sport the commonplace 1024x600 resolution. Users will be provided with a choice between the Intel Atom N450 or Z530 processors, as well as as well as between a 32GB SSD or a 160HDD.  Very snazzy stuff - sports similar specs to most other Windows 7 slates we've seen running Windows 7 Home Premium and so performance can be expected to be similar as well. I often dream about carrying one of these things around with me, lost in a

5 Must-Have Apps For Your MIDnite

September 28, 2010 by HS in Android, Nationite with No Comments.

So you've got your MIDnite now, eh? You take it everywhere and are a keen mobile internet-eer, checking your email while on the go, either round the block with the dog, in the bed vegging it up, or on the train to the office. What apps do you need, though? Here I detail five Android apps that, while not essential, I believe greatly benefit the ease of basic operation on your MIDnite device, through customisation and quick-hit shortcuts that you are bound to use day-in-day-out. We'll look at desktop customisation, replete with widgets galore; we'll look at rotating the screen with hair-trigger shortcuts so you don't have to exit your favourite app in order to do so! We'll look at the best web browsing available, as well as a smart task bar that lets you assign shortcuts and kill tasks a
