Qualcomm: 1.5Ghz in Q4

qualcomm

Qualcomm have promised their next flagship-Snapdragon chip, clocked at a whopping 1.5GHz, to arrive in Q4. This chip will be used to power things like smartphones and tablets. Does this mean we’ll begin to see this powerful workhorse in the generic tablets we’re interested in? Likely not, but what it does mean is that as the higher-end bar gets raised, it must surely affect the pricing of the lower-end, perhaps pushing it down. At least, that’s what we hope for. The 1.5GHz beast, a dual-core chip with individual core clock-tuning capability, will play nice with DDR2/DDR3 and will be able to playback 1080p video. It’s model number is the QSD8672 (note: not pictured above) but we’ll know it affectionately as the Snapdragon.
