MSI Tablets: Windows 7 Delayed; Android On Track
In what seems like another blow for two eager companies to get into the tablet mainstream foray (Microsoft and Intel), MSI’s Windows 7 tablet has been delayed until “2011″ which is, in itself, so vague it leaves me lacking optimism. According to MSI, the delay is due to the adoption of Intel’s upcoming Oak Trail platform, which will debut in early 2011. The reason for this switch is that Intel’s current offerings are too power-hungry and too slow for MSI’s liking.
MSI’s Android-tablet, the WindPad, is still on track for for a 2010 release – counting down the months. The WindPad will be powered by the ARM-based dual-core Nvidia Tegra 250 chipset and is looking to be a solid addition to the tablet market. MSI’s focus on tablets may also reduce their netbook lineup, but that has yet to be set in stone.

[...] MSI have a already introduced two different tablets that have been branded WindPad. MSI have now come out with other WindPads that will be introduced at the 2011 International CES. The apparent release date for the new WindPad tabs will be early next year. We know not much on the new MSI lineup. What we do know is that one of them will have a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen, and run Windows 7 Home Premium as it’s OS. This particular tablet will be among the first slates to use the Intel Atom Oak Trail platform which will vastly improve battery life over older Atom processing chips. The 10.1-inch tablet is said to measure less than an inch in depth and has a resolution of 1024 x 800 pixels. It also has a mini HDMI and USB port. There are also a few apparent specs for another MSI WindPad slate that is suppose to be powered by the powerful Tegra 2 chip. It’s also suppose to have a 10.1-inch screen with 1024 x 800 pixel resolution. Its other specs are also suppose to be similar to that of the Windows 7 WindPad, except the fact that this one will run an Android OS – quite possibly Honeycomb (Android 3.0). [...]
