Bmorn BM999 – The Big Boy RK2808 Android MID – Pictures!

Bmorn were nice enough to send me a pre-mass production unit of their new BM999 MID. The MID is essentially the same, softwarewise as the ifamous apad, it runs on Android 1.5 that has been customized to specifically run on the Rockchip RK2808 SoC. Unlike the aPad, the BM999 MID actually is quite well built and has a large 8.9″ 1024×600 resolution screen, which really makes quite a difference in the user experience.

As the above image shows, the BM999 really dwarfs the 7″ screened aPad, infact the 8.9″ screen, of the BM999, is larger than the entire apad. Its not only more bigger, but the BM999 is also heavier, the unit weighs about 600g alone, so its not your light weight player and its certainly something you would need to carry in a backpack.
Apart from the large screen and touch panel, the main reason for the heavy weight is due to the very large battery. Bmorn has informed us that device can do about 8hrs+ of web surfing with wifi on.

The 8.9″ screen which has a resolution of 1028×600 is very nice for viewing webpages on. Most websites are displayed in their entirety, so you don’t need to pan left and right to see the entire width of a website.

The Rockchip implementation of Android 1.5 comes with Google marketplace enabled, another one of the perks that comes with this customized version of Android. Having marketplace does allow you to download various third party apps, including popular Opera and Skyfire browser. Another upside to the RK2808 Android firmware is that it can be tweaked and this has been done on other RK2808 MID devices, namely the popular aPad. Hopefully we can see custom roms coming out for this device to make it run even better and snappier.
Other features of the tablet:
- HDMI/Component/Composite Video out
- Responsive touchscreen (more so than what comes on the aPad)
- Viewing stand on the back of the player
- Accelerometer
- Front facing 1.3MP camera (was no on the unit i had but will be on final production version)
- Microsd slot
- Internal memory of 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
Overall the Bmorn BM8999 is very promising, the overall quality far exceeds that of the generic RK2808 tablets and the large screen makes it really nice for web browsing and emailing, which is what most people generally have liked from other RK2808 tablets.
Hopefully you will see this stocked at MP4 Nation, but in the near term future expect a video review of this large MID.
