Gemei HD8900 Enters The Fray

Gemei have unveiled a new player, the HD8900. This is a 5-inch player with, supposedly, an 800×480 screen resolution which is nice to see in the 5-inch size, as opposed to the 480×272 variety. Chief among the touted features of the HD8900 is their e-book PDF reader (which can also read HTML and PDM files), which comes with the ability to switch among thousands of fonts, regulate things like background brightness and colours for a better reading experience. Swell.

The player is also full 1080p capable with, it is said, up to “5 hours” of battery life. We must always be cautious when guaging battery life as that largely depends on what you’re doing on the player and involves other mitigating factors like video resolution, whether you are using the speakers or earphones etc. Either way, a solid looking player coming out of Gemei, and they also have firmware updates penciled in on a schedule for their open application player, which means that they’ll be bringing something more to the player down the line. That is also pretty swell coming out of a market which typically follows the make, fake and forget strategy.
