Windows Phone 7 to Xbox Live

Though it is still a while away from launch (my last count, months), the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 is doing a remarkable job of staying afloat despite the turbulent waves of competition. It is not really that surprising – Microsoft know what they’re doing (from a hype-building standpoint) and have recently illuminated that they are determined to make mobile gaming for the Windows Phone 7 a success.
One of the problems that has prevalently plagued the mobile gaming landscape is the “race to zero”, otherwise known as the “too-many-bad-titles-the-good-ones-don’t-stand-out” syndrome. How often have you been dissatisfied with a mobile game title? Perhaps nearly every time.
Microsoft is (apparently) committed to ensuring that games developed for the Windows Phone 7 are high quality, competitively priced, come from established publishers and are released in a timely fashion, but how often have we heard the idealistic ravings that seem to violently eject from the mouths of company spokespeople?
One of the features boasted for the Windows 7 Phone mobile gaming is Xbox Live integration meaning logged stats, awards and, importantly, the marketplace. Apple have already done something similar with their Game Center and have the benefit of several months head start.
Perhaps there will now be a new – and real – avenue of competition open to phone developers.
