iPad Packaging Recycled Into Stand

The folks over at Make show us how to make an Apple iPad stand from the standard packaging that comes with the box, while at the same time forwarding the eco-friendly movement. The images are pretty much self-explanatory but written instructions are included. So go ahead and start saving the planet one plastic Apple iPad stand at a time.

Simple instructions are as follows:

  1. Buy – or at least obtain – iPad w/ box.
  2. Locate package insert that held the iPad in the box (it’s the one with the big slit in it).
  3. Cut it in half at the horizontal mid-point (and don’t try to with scissors unless you want to make mess of it all).
  4. Cut notch at desired angle (recommended depth is 1.5cm). This step is more important than seems at first glance. Don’t worry – you’ve got two chances but after that you’re out of spares.
  5. Insert iPad for the snug fit.

As the image says, BONUS – you can still press the “Home” button as well as use the bottom port. Of course, you may need to use your pinky to reach that pesky button. This cardboard-iPad-cardboard sandwich is cheap, fast, easy, free and green. While I myself am not the best example of someone furthering the environmental-cause, it is a fairly safe assumption that your children’s children will thank you. They’ll say, “remember those iPad stand converts? They saved the planet.”
