Cube announced this week their latest player, a Wifi enabled, touch screen, linux driven player. The above demo shows the player streaming video and audio content, its probably fair to assume that the streaming format is FLV and that the player connects to preset servers for all those illegal videos.
Well i guess its fair to say ”only in China’, an entire player taking advantage of the huge repository of most likely pirated videos, but hey the touch screen does seem to work quite well
The B53 Wifi is your true Pirate Portable Media Player as the entire thing works on the basis of connecting to servers within China that have ten of thousands of video files and which are streamed onto your player. It could even just be streaming files directly of popular video hosting sites like Yuko, which are commonly used for movie and TV show streaming. Off course only within China are these servers technically legal due to Chinas near super duper copyright laws.
Its hard to tell how well this would do outside of China, quite clearly the entire device is made for video and audio streaming, rather than the traditional video and music playback from the internal memory. As the player seems to be preset on server located within China, people who would use this in the US or Europe may experience a lot of buffering, somewhat defeating the point of the player.
One thing i do like about the player is that it seekms to have a search function, so you not just left browsing videos from the latest uploaded to the oldest, but there is someway to find the videos you want of the server.
Overall the B53-Wifi is quite an interesting player, it does touch on a totally different aspect of wifi use, that till now, really has not been done before by any media player company (both outside and within China). I will be interested in getting my hands on one of these asap, however there is yet still no word on availability or pricing.
Thanks cajl
