SmartQ Q5 Hands on quick review and pictures

q5_7

Well we finally got our hands on a SmartQ Q5 MID, i was well excited to finally get to play with this, sadly my first impressions of this player are quite mixed, mostly being of the negative persuasion. The player itself is has a compact feel to it, i snapped some pictures of it next to the S:Flo and the OS-43, so you can get a good idea that its a pretty compact for a 4.3″ screen device.

I am just going to keep this first review very short, for two good reasons, i have only been able to use the player for about an hour and shut it off, the lack of English language support made the device too frustrating and secondly (which added greatly to my frustration) the player is slow, the system seems to taxing the hardware, but this could be just due to a non complete firmware integration, so i really don’t want people forming negative opinions of this player without giving SmartQ a bit of time for a firmware update.

There are some noticeable positive attributes of the player, the screen is very nice,  the web browser is cool, it resizes web pages to fit the screen better, making for a better surfing experience that say Internet explorer on WinCE devices, however the browser is sluggish and scrolling down a page is a near nightmare.

Video playback seems to be similar to that of the RAmos T9, plays videos very smoothly but doesn’t really support videos over 800×480 that great – also pretty much the same as the Meizu M8.  I haven’t had time to try audio via the earphones, i will comment on that at a later time.

A bit of a final note, i do not think the touch screen is capacitive, SmartQ i think did a quite bold face lie on that also good luck using the device without a stylus, the high resolution screen makes icons pretty small, so using your finger with the screen is very hard.

I again want to stress that it seems the firmware needs more development and one thing SmartQ has been previously known for, is that they do continue to improve on their firmware after a product has been released like when the original T5 was released.
