SmartQ has released more info on their upcoming Q5 MID, in all respects, the hardware looks quite solid, as of right now we know the new MID will have:
- Samsung S3C6410 mobile processor (667mHz) ARM11
- Wifi enabled
- 128MB DDR Ram
- 1GB of internal NAND Flash - SD slot that will support upto 32GB SDHC card
- USB OTG function for additional peripherals and data storage devices
- Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR module - with teathering to mobile phones allowing the MID to act as a phone
- 800 x 480 resolution screen
- 4.3″ capactive touch panel
- Dimension: 120*74*14mm (1.4cm thick!!!!!!)
- 2000mAh lithium polymer battery.
Within China the Q5 would only run you RMB$899/USD$132.
Now lets take a moment and compare whats the nextmost comparable thing in China like that of the Q5, the Meizu M8, which also uses the same Samsung ARM11 chip, which (no longer) doesn’t have Wifi, with a smaller screen with lower resolution, but does have built in phone function (not 3G) costing about RMB$2350/USD$345.
I wonder which is going to do better. I think Meizu has just had the rug pulled from under them, you can expect the Q5, at least within China, to really shake up the portable gadget market.
