RAmos ‘Terminator’ T12 takes a page out of Blackberrys book

March 30, 2009 by Raz in PMP, Ramos with 1 Comment.

RAmos has announced their new line of 'Terminator' players (much like Ainol 'Transformers' line of players), the Terminator line looks to be using the new Rockchip RK2806 chipset, their newest generation of high resolution (1024x720 res) media chips. The T12 will incorporate a thumb wheel, the sort that is commonly found on Blackberry devices,  which (we hope) if implemented correctly will give a better control over the user interface, even more so than the current touch screen MP4 players on the market. However at this point (and know how Chinese makers can be) its only speculative on how and what part of the UI the thumb wheel would control (god i hope its not just for volume!). Te T12 also has some other very notable characteristic, it will have a 5.0", 800 x 280 resoluti

Engadget: Meizu M8 Unboxing – the gloves are off

March 28, 2009 by Raz in PMP with No Comments.

Oh snap! Meizu and Apple fanboys are tuning into Engadget unboxing of the Meizu M8 that we just happened to have sent them ;) We thought it was about time one of the bigger tech blogs actually got their hands on the M8 to check it out for themselves instead of people pulling pure speculative punches. Check out the rest of the unboxing images at Engadget, lets hope they have the time to do more of a match up later. Via Engadget.

SmartQ Q5 MID supports EDGE

March 26, 2009 by Raz in PMP with 1 Comment.

Another day and another interesting feature revealed about the SmartQ Q5 MID, we now know that the Q5 can work with a EDGE modem for internet connectivity. I am not sure how popular EDGE modems are outside of China, Hong Kong,  S.Korea and Japan, but i can tell you this one additional feature is going to make this device even more popular within China. It is good to see that SmartQ is accommodating to their own local market, within China there aren't exactly an abundant amount of wifi hotspots, so the wifi feature of the Q5 is a bit limited to either ones home or workplace, but with the EDGE modem, it allows the average China user to use this device almost anywhere. I know i am very interested in this specific feature as EDGE modems are cheap in Hong Kong and can be purchased with lo

RAmos T9 16GB review and pictures

March 25, 2009 by Raz in PMP Review, Ramos with 1 Comment.

The RAmos T9 is a very stylish player, with an overall small body size (but with a slightly thick metallic frame), a very nice capacitive touch screen and a beautiful and vibrant, high resolution screen. The T9 does use the RK2712 media chip, this is basically an improved form of the popular RK2706 chipset, capable of playing high resolution videos better than the RK2706 chip could. This chip is needed to take full advantage of the 800x480 resolution screen that the player has. The T9's most outstanding attribute is its high quality screen, a user would find it hard to find fault with the screen RAmos choose to use with the player, with colors just jumping out at you at even the most extreme of viewing angles. Not only does the UI look even better with such a screen, but video

Hacha PC50L – another 3.0″ pocket widescreen player

March 25, 2009 by Raz in PMP with No Comments.

We recieved these new images today of Hacha PC50L, a new widescreen 3.0" player with a LTPS screen. The PC50L does look like one of the more stylish 3.0" players that we have seen in recent memory, most likely it will have the polished finish similar to that of their PC90 model. The Hacha PC50L will most likely use the Rockchip  RK2706 media chip and capoable of playing most common audio and video files, including lossless audio and hi res video files.  It is a shame that Hacha didn't choose to join the CC1600 media chip band wagon, i think this players stylish look and good screen would really have worked will with the CC1600 media chip. Rockchip RK2806 to compete for 720p playback market with Teclast M66

March 23, 2009 by Raz in Rockchip, Teclast with 1 Comment.

Well, due to some shady marketing about Rockchips last chipset release (RK2712), i will be taking this bit of news with a pinch of salt. Today Teclast announced plans for their new MP4 (looking sheepishly like a digital photo frame) player, the M66. Within the M66 breaths the new RK2806 chip, capable of support 720p resolution of RMVB, FLV and avi.  To top it off it will be using the Wolfson WM8988 DAC (i think the same one that the new Meizu M8 uses), i assume the wolfson chip is to compete with the Cirrus Logic DAC that is used in conjunction with the CC1600 media chip. Well its good to see Rockchip finally coming out with a media chip capable of very high resolution playback, i am mostly happy as players that use the Rockchip solution tend to have better UI and more variety, unl
