Just prior to Chinese New Year Onda sent us over a sample unit of their new Onda VX535HD, their first player using the new China Chip CC1600 ‘HD’ chip, using a 4.3″ TFT screen capable of 800×480 resolution. Overall the player is no different from that of other players using the same chipset, the screen quality is excellent and the chips video playback performance is very good. However unlike other similar players the VX535HD does not come with a wireless remote, not too much of a biggy, but it is a nice feature to have on this player that does have very good video out quality.
One other thing this player does share in common with other similar players using the CC1600 chip is the rather poor user interface. Overall the UI is not much different from players that ran on the JZ47xx chipsets (VX777, VX747 etc), making any other features pretty useless, apart from those that are video playback related.
We most likely will actually not carry the VX535HD but will look to add something a little more interesting for our first HD player.
