Interesting new Linux UMPC from China

September 26, 2008 by Raz in PMP with No Comments.

The Porient H12 is probably the first UMPC i have seen to come from China that will run on linux and allow for web surfing. The 4.3" touch screen device will have wifi, GOS and its screen will have a crisp 800 x 480 resolution display. Wow i am impressed, however there is little else to show for its actual performance other than the nice photoshopped image (i am also pretty sure the broswer is Safari). It is good to see that some Chinese manufacturers are branching out to start utilizing linux based devices. More info via pmotoday

The oppo “twist” finally gets named

September 24, 2008 by maderin1 in Hardware News, Oppo, Site News with No Comments.

This player from OPPO has caused a bit of a stir Looks good eh! well at the start it had no name, but through a contest on the OPPO BBS one has been chosen Introducing the MUSE This is an actual live picture of the player Now what strikes me is the fact the the stunning UI from the top pic has gone, and replaced by another bog standard, grid of icons, big shame. Anyway, pop over to the forums and discuss this player, not yet released and full details are still not really available, but we will post as soon as we know anything, but knowing OPPO it will be well developed and procey SOURCE DISCUSS ON FORUMS

RAmos Q20 iLive Announced – Another CMMB Player

September 23, 2008 by Raz in PMP, Ramos with No Comments.

RAmos today announced another new additional to the Mumu product lineup, the Q20 iLive. The player, which isn’t touch screen (or at least the specifications make no reference to touch screen), is geared towards being a more compact CMMB (digital TV receiver) player. We don’t really need to speculate too much on what chipset this will be using, much like all other CMMB players, this will most likely be using the Rockchip RK2706 chipset, as well as a 3.5? QVGA screen. Apart from the CMMB feature, the player will be able to play various audio and video formats and will be capable of support hi resolution videos. Not much other information is yet available on this player, but it does seem the iLive is being made to mainly cater to those that want a more compact CMMB player, till no

Design the Nationite F:Flo Logo – Win a Nationite F:Flo 8GB

September 21, 2008 by Raz in Contest, Nationite with No Comments.

Yes we have a new player that we are going to stamp our old Nationite logo on and (probably no surprise to many), it will be the Onda VX525. So lets get the fun started, i can't design for squat, so i am going to give all you great gaprhic artists out there to strut your stuff. What is required: A logo that will represent the F:Flo, there should be a symbolic logo (like the two waves for the S:Flo) and also the words F:Flo present in the design. Please do not include Nationite into the logo design. The design will have to go on the back of the player and on the box. For the box the logo will go on top of the following background. Please keep in mind that the logo when printed will be done in a glossy print, so that it will stand out from the rest of the normal printed box. Th

SmartQ Tao – more information on main chipset

September 21, 2008 by Raz in Hardware News, SmartQ with No Comments.

SmartQ Tao has been rife with speculation for what main chip it would be using, initally the reports seems that it may use the same Samsung ARM chip that is to be used on the Meizu M8. It has now been confirmaed that the player will stick to the same ADI Blackfin chip used in the SmartQ T5-II, the ADI Blackfin BF547 chip. This is actually not a big suprise, SmartQ is one of the very few MP4 player manufacturers to still favor using the more expensive American chipset, instead of the more commonly used Ingenic and Rockchip chipsets. The second generation Blackfin chip does have some serious power, so it will be well suited on a 3.3" touch screen (with a screen res of 480*320). Well this does look like one juicy little player. especially with SmartQs habit of making very nice looking

TAO – New Player From SmartQ in the works

September 19, 2008 by maderin1 in Hardware News, PMP, SmartQ with No Comments.

SmartQ are a Chinese MP4 company that take a slightly different route then the normal manufacturers out in China. While the others release a new player a month (no exaggeration ), SmartQ takes a more refined approach and only currently have 2 payers in their range, choosing to modify and update the player to achieve better results. So when SmartQ announce a new player its big news, so here it is The TAO Rumors are rife as to what this player is and what it will do and one of the biggies is its choice of processor. SmartQ have been using the ADI BLACKFIN processor in the T5 range of players and have made good use of it, its more expensive then the usual Chinese fare but more powerful all round, but this time its rumored they will be using the same chip as Meizu have chosen for thei

Teclast T50+ Announced – Reduced touch screen quality, but more features

September 17, 2008 by Raz in Nationite, PMP with No Comments.

Teclast has finally officially announced their Teclast T50+, a 'newer' version of their Teclast T50 (also known as Nationite S:Flo). If you have been frequenting our forums you will know that this isn't much of new news and we have been dubbing this as the S:Flo Lite already. In fact, i've had a sample of this for almost two weeks now. The player is the same as the T50, with wolfson audio chip, WQVGA screen, RK2706 chip, but it will not have a capactive touch screen, it will be using the same touch screen as the M26, the touch screen is now referred to as multi-point touch, which is basically a funky sort of resisitive touch screen. What does the change in touch screen mean, well it means no more fast scrolling. There are two new features on the player, one will be TV Out, a now common
