Disection: Onda VX787 Internal Pictures

So i got bored today and decided to open up the new Onda VX787 sample i got yesterday. Nothing of any real surprise, however the images do suggest that the screen maybe a capacitive screen after all. Anyways enjoy the below pictures and yes i was able to put it back together and it still works ;)

The case was actually quite easy to open, i had issues opening the VX767 case before.

I was impressed to see such a nice clean finish for the circuit board, however i wasn’t surprised, Onda tends to have higher manufacturing standards that the average MP4 maker. I was a little annoyed to find that the speakers were glued onto the back case. The battery is pretty big, not surprise that you can get about 6hrs of continuous video playback on this (but the battery is thinner than that of the VX767 battery).

Ah, the screen, capacitive or resistive? I think capacitive.

The board, the chip with the sticker on top of it is the Rockchip RK2706 media chip that runs the VX787.

Always interesting to open a MP4 player and see what makes it tick. Head on over to our forum to disucss this and if you haven’t already, checkout our review of the Onda VX787.

Hi, I bought VX575 Full HD player 2 days ago. Unfortunately the display (TFT screen) was broken. But OS is working fine. I can see only 20% of screen correctly (left side). Is it possible to replace display alone. Is it mandatory to use ONDA spare parts (not sure it is available?)? It is a standard 5inch TFT so is it possible to use any other TFT to this player? may be mobile/cell phone’s !! Please help me out.

    Hello,

The display alone can be replaced, however doing so would undoubtedly void your warranty.

As for replacing the screen… you may or may not have to use ONDA parts. Sorry I can’t be more help but I just can’t be sure.

It is more like than not, though, that you’ll be able to use any generic part just so long as the adapter is the same.

    Thanks for the information HS,

I am not worried about the warranty. Anyhow the player itself is not usable now. Is ONDA company will support TFT screen replacement? I am not in china, I feel the service cost is more than player cost. So I am planning to use my local service.

Is the strip (cable connection) attached to the TFT screen is common for all 5-inch TFT screen or will different for ONDA player?

    Thank you

    Hello,

I can’t be sure if it uses a standard connection or ONDA-specific one. That tends to vary from motherboard to motherboard.

Truthfully the only way to find out is to open it up and see for yourself, comparing it to a standard one. If you find out it is standard, a replacement should certainly be doable.

Thank you for the info. Any tips for opening/close the case?
